It also gives advice on modern daily life, socializing, communicating and getting around. Useful for anyone who wants to understand who the Germans are today, and how to get along with them!

I moved to Germany for work and read this book on the flight over. It gave me a quick historical recap with just the right amount of culture to get me started with a fundamental understanding of the German people. Highly recommend for those going to Germany for work, school, or just a vacation.

Take it from a German: the descriptions of the German people are mind bogglingly correct! I felt the author has great insight into the German mind and philosophy. In addition it’s a quick read, a valuable help for anyone trying to do business in Germany with the Germans.

This is an interesting excellent book. I liked this book because I learned some new facts that I did not know before reading this book. I read this book for my personal pleasure and personal knowledge. Some of the interesting information that this book mentions include the following information: About 80% of Germany is agricultural land. However today, agriculture makes up only 0.63% of the German economy (2017 figures) and employees under 1.5% of the German workforce. Home ownership is less common in Germany than in much of the rest of Europe. About 43% of the Germans in Germany own their own homes. Most people in Germany rent. Many people from the United States complain about the small size of European refrigerators. However, many Germans are used to shopping for food regularly rather than making one huge weekly excursion. Women in Germany insist on paying their own way. Going Dutch is quite acceptable and well understood in German society. Many Germans show a strong preference for paying cash even on expensive items instead of using a credit card to pay.

Well made, good paper and printing. For $15 and in such a small book, the size of a palm, you could spare no ink and print color images inside. I can’t say anything about the content since my son chose it and reads it. But I can say that I will not buy another book from this series.

Easy to read and use while using my iPad.

An excellent, easy to read book which provides an introduction to the considerations when working either in Germany or through remote working with a German client.

Geschrieben wurde es von dem Engländer Barry Tomalin der auf internationale Kommunikation spezialisiert ist. Der Grund, warum ich mir als Deutscher dieses Buch kaufte, war um die Sicht von außen auf die deutsche Kultur zu haben und auch Anregungen, was das Thema angeht.Generell ist das Buch sehr informativ gestaltet, wie man dem Inhaltsverzeichnis entnehmen kann, werden verschiedene Themenbereiche angeschnitten von Geschichte über Geographie zu Werten und Traditionen der Deutschen. Der Schreibstil ist einfach zu verstehen, jedoch für meinen Geschmack an manchen Stellen zu langatmig, weswegen ich aber keinen Abzug gebe.Besonders schön empfinde ich die an manchen Stellen eingestreuten Beispiele und Zusatzinformationen wie persönliche Erlebnisse. Insgesamt empfand ich, trotz der gerade mal 200 Seiten die deutsche Kultur in all ihren Facetten gut abgebildet wurde und es machte Spaß, den kulturellen Spiegel vorgehalten zu bekommen, diesmal ohne Überspitzung oder Pointen.Pro:einfaches Englischkompakt, aber bietet viel WissenZusatzinformationen bzw. kleine AnekdotenContra:manchmal etwas langatmigFazit: Wer jemand die deutsche Kultur im kompakten Format näher bringen will, ist hier goldrichtig.
