Excellant calming smell.
I've used this product for about 30 years, to be honest I need this smell like most people need a cup of coffee. It's not just for morning though, it's just a great all around calming but energizing scent. Also this line is one of the cleanest burning inscense and it also burns slow so it lasts longer than most.It isn't the easiest to find at most stores so I was thriled to find it on Amazon because I am grumpy without it. For meditation I don't think there's anything better.

Light yet permeating scent
Perfect. Sometimes I prefer strong unmistakable fragrance; other times I want an almost ephemeral, lingering quality. The Shoyeido line is perfect for the latter.

Great incense, Amazon needs to up their packing game
A very nice incense that comes as a bundle of long (approx 13.5 inches) sticks, packaged in a relatively flimsy box. When shipped in a box with other items or on its own in a padded envelope, it is not uncommon that the bundle of incense sticks arrives broken. This is not always a problem (depending on how they are broken) given that a single, unbroken stick can burn for 2 hours. I usually break them in half anyway. Just something to be aware of.

Love the scent!
I’ve read other reviews on various incense brands complaining of strong perfumed scents that may or may not smell as expected when brought to the nose. But incense is best smelled from a distance in the air. Just a faint wafting. If yours smell too strong out of the box, give it a chance. Light it and walk away! I love the woodsy, earthy scent with a hint of exotic moments drifting by!

Great incense not alot of smoke just a great scent.
Love this stuff. Just a piece about 2 inches long and the whole home is smelling wonderful. There is no stick in the center to burn and make lots of smoke. Doesn't stink like many of the ones with sticks inside. I have a tile with a hole in it for the holder. burns almost to the end(about a 16th of an inch doesn't burn cause of the holder. Worth the money!!!!!!!!

Sweet and potent -- fills the house.
This is very potent and pleasing scent. I use half a stick at a time. The sticks have a larger diameter and you may need a different burner. Typical burners, made for incense on a wooden stick, won't fit Morning Zen sticks. I use the small ceramic burner which comes with Nippon Kodo's Fragrance Memory line of incense.

Highly recommended
I purchased "Morning Zen" by Shoyeido and, on a separate occasion "Evening Zen" by the same company. The scents and ingredients list were similar but I much prefer the Morning Zen variety, which includes cinnamon and patchouli (rather than the clove in Evening Zen) alongside the sandalwood, benzoin and spices that are common to both Morning and Evening varieties. 'Morning Zen' has a subtle and distinctive aroma - the earthy, woody Sandalwood is sweetened and lightened by the cinnamon and patchouli, with the benzoin coming through in a sweet, powdery almost vanilla tone that reminds me of talcum powder! The overall scent is an intriguing and intoxicating blend that is at the same time woody, sweet and typically oriental and Japanese in character. The sticks are thicker than usual (so may not fit all incense stick holders), and really long with a burn time of 2 hours! I love using these for morning meditation and then bringing the stick downstairs with me to scent and freshen the house. Otherwise you can snap the sticks in half for a shorter burn time (be aware, these sticks do snap fairly easily so take care if transporting them that they don't get knocked about). Like all Japanese incense, this does not contain a wooden/bamboo stick and so is pure incense, producing less smoke. It is also typical of Japanese incense in that it is subtle, mellow and refined compared to more common and well known Indian-style incenses (such as Nag Champa) which can be pungent and overpowering for some people as well as producing a lot of smoke. However, it is probably worth noting that since Morning Zen sticks are significantly thicker than standard Japanese incense sticks, they do produce slightly more smoke than your average Japanese incense (but still much less than an Indian variety). Morning Zen incense leaves a pleasant, subtle aroma in your home long after the stick has run out. I would highly recommend them. They will now be one of my staple incense varieties, alongside Nippon Kodo - Mainichi-Koh Sandalwood (the very affordable 'everyday' variety that we use at the Zen Centre I attend, and my 'go to' daily incense) and Nippon Kodo "Eiju Spicy Sandalwood" (a slightly higher end, spicier Sandalwood which I also love).

Morning Zen = zen anytime, anywhere.❤
I adore this scent. I cut the sticks in half to make them last longer. It's enough for small and large rooms. Scent lingers for a few days. Perfect for my yoga and meditation practices.
