Great customer service, a little complex setup
The HD PVR 2 Gaming Edition is a great product which is a little difficult to set up. Depending on which console you're planning on using it for, it can be a little cumbersome to get it working. I personally had to use tutorials to properly set it up for recording the PS3.The built-in encoding is the most advantageous aspect, allowing you to capture hours of footage at a much lower file size, with no discernible quality loss. For this reason, even for recording PC footage it can be better to use than capture software such as Fraps.Live streaming can also be a little bit difficult. The HD PVR runs at a bit of a slower rate than live (because of the real-time encoding) so you will need to set a manual delay for OBS or x-split. Getting it "just right" can be difficult, so your reactions can seem a little early, or a little late, depending on how you set up the delay. I recommend looking online based on what console you're using, what game you're playing, what streaming platform you're using, and what streaming software you're using.Unfortunately my HD PVR2 Gaming Edition arrived with a broken cable for the PS3. However, after contacting customer support, they were able to assist me, and sent a new piece free of charge on express shipping. It arrived the next day, which was great! The price is a little high, but if you can catch it on sale, it's definitely a good device.

Great quality but poor software
While I was extremely happy with the capture quality of the PVR 2 it didn't quite make up for the terrible design of the software (arcsoft showbiz). Everything was very easy to setup and use to capture but the editing process take a grueling amount of effort and the program tends to freeze or have really long loading times. If your looking for quick clips or long playthroughs then this will work great for you, but if you want to make epic intros or endings and montages with multiple clips then your better off getting additional software (like Sony Vegas) and completely avoid the included programs besides capturing the video.

Not great and not because of the product itself...
The Hardware is good but i'm very disappointed that I have to buy extra software for it to work on my mac and also that clearly there is a problem with the HDMI output of the device when using a HDMI TV input source (doesn't work) ... So after spending close to 200 $ on a device and then tell me that I have to spend another 30$ on software for my mac and that on top of that it is a hack job?? Somebody needs a client support training over there...Guess I'll be using this on a windows computer then... petty.Seb

Recording with push-button ease
Hauppauge is a leader in the market for a very good reason; their products are the definition of quality. Setup for this system was so easy, anyone can do it. Just install the software with the device connected, and you are good to go. With the added benefit of their newly released Hauppauge Capture software, you can have a single application for both streaming and recording, with a great interface.Software reliability can still be finicky, but I've found this to be the case with every single video capture and editing software. Hauppauge, however, crashed the fewest times, and has the broadest feature set. With the ability to record your mic while recording your game, it makes video making a breeze. The push button on the unit is large and works every single time. There's no weird or random errors like I have seen on a previous device from another manufacturer. Firmware updates are simple and easy, and there's no real problem in using the product. The pass-through allows for near 0 latency on your games. There might be some small delay, but if it is, it is unnoticeable. The device can also accept two connections, and act as a switch for games. I have both my XBox and PS3 hooked in, and by opening the capture software, I can switch video inputs. Considering that an HDMI switch runs $100 on average, you get recording for 23 dollars more...

You're gonna need a good computer.
I have a HP Pavilion G6 and I thought since it's a new computer, this would work fine. Truth is, it didn't. I could only record on this computer for about 20 minutes and since I'd like to record an hour/two of gameplay each session, this doesn't help. If I had a better computer with better specs, it would work way better. But for the picture quality/sound? Unbelievable. This is some of the most beautifully crisp footage and sound I've ever seen in a recording. Worth the price, but only if you have an awesome computer to back it up.
