The perfect introductory book to explain what you can do with a degree in architecture
This book does an excellent job of introducing the interested teen to architecture and possibilities of that job. After starting with a solid introduction to architecture, including history, the main focus of architecture and some of the issues that being an architect involves, the book then proceeds into overview lessons of what the job of an architect offers ibn terms of possibilities. While explaining to the reader what architects can do to impact the life of others, the book also explains the steps involved in the architecture project from a basic design to modeling and coming up with a budget. The book is not hands on. So if the reader expects steps on becoming an architect and lessons on how to design or develop a budget; this is not the book for you. This book is best summarized as a “tell” lesson on what architects do and what variety of interests all feed into an architect’s job, including the possibilities beyond building houses. If you have a teen that is thinking about architecture, but is not sure. This book is good to explain to the teen the variety of work that can be done using a degree in architecture, but it will not provide the teen with any hands on lessons.I received a free copy of the book from the publisher.

Apparently great
This was a gift for a 14 year old grandson that when I asked what he was thinking about for a career, he said, "Architecture". Well, I've always loved architecture so we had a discussion of the ins and outs of the profession, and it seemed like he was serious. So I got him this book. He's an avid reader, so he went through it in a couple of days. His mom told me he wanted to be a "Principal Architect". I said "I don't even know what that is, LOL". So I guess that's a recommendation. I didn't get a chance to page through it, I sent it directly to him.

Ok
I was not impressed by the dearth of information. Sort of an insult to my granddaughter’s intelligence.

A must-have for all high school libraries
The first thing that stuck me about Architecture for Teens was the bright green cover and contemporary illustrations. This message of sustainability and a clean environment is so important to this generation. I bought this for a friend's 15 year old granddaughter who is looking for direction towards a field of study where she can combine her aptitude in math, art and spatial skills. She thought that architecture was a bit scary and mainly for men so wasn't giving it enough consideration. However, this book uses a motivating yet informational voice without being patronizing or too elementary. It does an excellent job of understanding not only what architecture is but how inclusive it is and the numerous directions you can take. In a teenager's mind it allows fantasy with the progression from historical logic to modern needs and how exciting it would be to contribute to this exciting field. My only disappointment is that I wish I would have had this available to me when I was 15.
