Age of Empyre

Wow! Superb ending to a fantastic series!
I’m not sure that I have ever written a review for a book on Goodreads or Amazon, but I am happy to do so now. I owned Age of Myth as an audiobook for quite a while, but only got to listening and reading it last month. I’d never read any of Sullivan’s books previously, and I can happily say that he is among my favorite authors now. I ripped through the first five books of the series within a week and was dismayed that I had to wait a couple more for the final book to be published. This series has made me laugh, cry, exclaim “WHAT?!” and has thoroughly been a rollercoaster. During the wait for the new book I read all of the Riyria Revelations books, next up is Riyria Chronicles. For Age of Empyre, I have to say, it did not disappoint. I loved the history that was revealed, shown, not told/infodumped; after reading RR I was better able to appreciate the history and characters in this series. After Age of Death, I really wasn’t sure what to expect or how the story would unfold that would answer all of the questions raised in the previous books, but all was answered, and Age of Empyre exceeded my expectations. I finished the book within the day, and I couldn’t have asked for more.Thank you for a roaring good ride, Michael J. Sullivan!

Amazing ending
What an amazing and satisfying conclusion to this series. As much as I loved Riyria, in some ways I actually prefer this series.

Better than I expected after reading the reviews
I almost didn't purchase this book after reading so many negative reviews about the last two books, but since I was going to be stuck somewhere remote, and had little else that I wanted to read, I went ahead and bought it. I'm so glad that I did, as I really enjoyed the story. I had been worried about the plot line of Suri being captured, but actually that played out really well. Both of the last two books kept me interested through to the end, with enough twists to keep things just unpredictable enough. I thought this was money well spent. The frustrating aspect now is that the other series remain unavailable on Amazon, and I need to find a different way of sourcing those books.

Pretty Sure
I can't remember the last time I sat down with an epic and read it straight through more or less in one sitting. Reading this finale to the series, I felt like Bastion reading The Never-Ending Story. Holed up by myself, transported to a magical world, finding out what happens to my friends and heroes. This was such a great book and the best conclusion. I'd complained a bit about the cliffhangers in the previous two books, but everything was worth it (though I'm still glad I only had to wait a few days rather than months or years between books). This book had those moments that made me want to throw my hands up and cheer. The mythology is so deep and well built. All the mysteries being revealed at just the right pace. I love the rag-tag group of characters that each become heroes at just the right time. I got choked up multiple times. There was a verbal call back that was perfect. And getting to revisit something we thought was lost was just the best! And there are so many little things that I vaguely remember from the Riyria Revelations get little mentions and it's made me want to go back and read that whole series again.

Excellent end to great series
This ends an epic tale of the early history of the universe set in the Riyria series. Brin and Gifford (two of my favorites) are especially featured in this final book which closes out the story very well. This has been a great series and now I am set to re-read the two Riyria series which are one of my favorites of all time.

Backstory in detail
Wow, a great detailing of events that lead up to what we've already read. The poor reviews truly come from the impatient that have no imagination for prequels. We are slowly understanding where the story of Riyria began and why things happened. Over the years this author has consistently given us readers more and more, when he didn't have to. But it's great to have a broader understanding of this world we've been reading for so long. And with more to come! Enjoy the read page by page, and take in the world he created book by book. His next series out will mostly be the final piece to the whole storyline. I most likely will re-read it all in chronological order just for fun. Great writer, great narrator, great teamwork by all!

Good, but not as good as ryiria
I loved the concept of this series. It was super fun to get the backstory of Elan. If you like the rest of Michael's work, you'll like this book. I didn't feel that he stuck the landing quite as well with this book as he did with ryiria.

finally!
Long standing questions answered, mysteries revealed, and about time, too! An engrossing and satisfying read. Looking forward to more novels from this author.

Great end to the series
I think there is not much point giving a summary of the last book of a six book series. Let's just say that the cliffhanger ending of the last one is addressed immediately at the start of this one and we'll leave it there. The end is suitably epic, poignant, and with enough questions unanswered to leave you wanting more which is always good.I absolutely loved the first book the first time I read it, I think I devoured it in just over one day which is very rare for me since I was a teenager. The second time around it was not quite as good and I had to learn to accept these books for what they are: relatively light with few shades of grey with the goal of just telling a really good story. There are dark bits in these books, quite dark actually when you think about it, but the light that shines (sometimes both literally and figuratively) from the characters can obscure this. However, overall, I would consider these books hopeful which can be a nice change in the modern fantasy market.I also really enjoyed the expansion of the lore in this series. I don't think it played a big part in the original books but being honest my memories are fairly hazy on this. I found it very interesting and there definitely seems like there will be more to come in that respect. The 'Malcolm' character reminds me of other similar immortal tropes but I still felt it was well done and look forward to more of the same down the line. There wasn't quite the surprise I got at the end of Revelations in this series but the author still managed to get me a little on a couple of threads. He has the rare ability to make things obvious in retrospect but which I still didn't see coming. Strangely I really wanted to read Revelations again at the end but hopefully I will get to it again soon, as well as his new series. Looking forward to more books in the world of Elan!
