Good book for newbies, valuable reference for experience
This book adequatley covers at a meaningful level of detail many of the most important healthcare improvement concepts. As such it should be valuable to anyone with an engineering/ non-engineering background looking to get into healthcare improvement. There are lengthy volumes that cover many of the topics in this book so just don't expect that a single chapter in this book to be the last word on any particular subject. On the other hand, for the most part the book does focus on the vital issues and concepts for each topic covered. As such, it provides value to even seasoned pros working in healthcare improvement.

Disappointed
For a management engineering book that is labeled to help you open your own consulting business I expected more. I learned more in one of my graduate classes.

Not Worth it.
Not that great of a book for someone already working within that role. It's pretty basic stuff. Wouldn't waste my money on it.

This book is filled with best practices shared by healthcare professionals from all over the country with backgrounds varying from engineering, marketing, clinical & administrative. For students and young professionals, this guide provides excellent insight into the tenants of process improvement & industrial engineering in the world of healthcare.

Great Primer for Healthcare
We, in the healthcare profession, have been using science and practices from other industries for decades, and yet we haven't been able to increase our efficiencies like the quantum events that occurred in package delivery, auto manufacturing, movie delivery, etc... This book starts to get at the focus needed for us to really transform how we deliver care. Einstein had it right when he said, "... We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them..."Keep at it Dr. Larson... Force us to think differently!

Great book for an industrial engineer or process improvement professional considering a career in healthcare
This book is filled with insights into the application of industrial engineering principles in healthcare. While the IE principles apply to all industries, this book does a great job making that leap from manufacturing applications to healthcare applications. I've been working in healthcare for over 13 years, and I still learned things from the book, including application of IE concepts that I hadn't thought about. A must read if you're considering a career in healthcare process improvement.

Management engineering for the rest of us
The title could have been “Management Engineering for the Rest of Us.” This is an excellent book for those new to the profession (industrial engineering) or new to the domain (healthcare) or to those working in another function in healthcare like operations, decision support, medicine, nursing, medical technology, information technology, etc. who believes applying science of process improvement could be useful to their own professional practice.
