So far a great aftermarket alternative to oe
My 2001 tacoma had thrown a code about 2 years ago. Proir to the code being thrown the truck had somewhat rapidly, over the span of 10k miles, gone from 17ish mpg down to 11mpg.I did a tune up and replaced the basics. Still the mpg sucked. The truck still hadn't thrown a code so I wasn't sure what the issue was. Then about 2 years ago the check engine light had come on. I figured the next step was to do a major 80k service. This truck is my 3rd vehicle and the priority of doing an 80k on it was very low. So it sat for 2 years. I only would drive this on one weekend a month just to keep the fluids happy. After 2 years the dmv wanted me to take it in for a smog. I knew it wouldn't pass with the check engine light on so j decided to plug in the odd reader and check the code. I was sure that I had done this 2 years ago but I didn't remember what code it had thrown. I read the code and it turned out to be the mass airflow sensor. I check with toyota and it's a $200 part. F that I thought. I checked ebay and my buddy Jeff bezos' shop and found this part. Ordered it up and had it installed in less than 24 from the time of the diagnosis.Boom, just like that, the truck ran great. It had a lot more power, no more pinging, and 17+mpg again.Wow. Why didn't I do this 2 years ago?So there you go. Just one man's experience with fixing their own rig. I will give you a heads up though. I don't have time to proof read this. Please forgive the spelling and grammar mistakes.

Solved lagging acceleration under load
Heavier acceleration, or acceleration under load was lagging on 2006 Tacoma 4.0 V6. Was getting codes P0171 and P0174 also. Had been getting worse lately, and was ready to replace the fuel pump based on research. But before going to the trouble and expense of that, I decided to get a new MAF sensor, rather than just cleaning the OE one. It made all the difference in the world! Accelerates better through the entire range now, and no lagging when getting up to freeway speeds quickly. I'd highly recommend trying this if you're having acceleration issues.Edit - next day after installing MAF sensor: While the truck runs better overall, there was still some lagging acceleration problems, so I went ahead and installed the fuel pump assembly I had ordered. THAT was the true problem! The filter at the bottom of the pump assembly was very gunked up on the inside. There is ZERO starving for fuel now, acceleration is amazing, running better than ever now! (239,000 miles!)

PO171 & 174 Codes Fixed!
I own a 2003 Toyota Highlander with the six cylinder and it was throwing the 171 and 174 Bank 2 codes and after doing some research I decided to game the $20 on the mass air flow senser and it worked! At $10 for a can of MAF spray cleaner it's worth the gamble if you suspect a dirty MAF even if it's an aftermarket part.
