I have a 6 pound Pomeranian and she is comfortable. It is small. I would not go much bigger than that!

Q: Does this carry in front going to the left side? Also work with a large chested female?

It goes on the right side so the dog's head would pop out in front of you, but you could probably put on the left. It can even go in the front of you. It fits snug against the body, so I am not sure if it would be comfortable for a very large chested woman. I am a 36 B so it is not an issue. It is a very nice carrier.
