The Illustrated Ramayana

Brilliant book. Great illustrations.

This beautiful book is a the perfect accompaniment to a standard Ramayana book. DK has faithfully followed the storyline to places, regions and publications using well researched references that point out nuances in the story. I am an avid mythology reader and this book provided more insight, background information on the key characters in the story. The pages are glossy and the pictures are bright and perfect. I got this on a deal and the book is well worth the amount charged! I've been showing it off incessantly to all my Indian friends and everyone has been awed! Well done!!!

I have several coffee table like books by DK. They are all excellent…beautiful illustrations, quality paper and well written, informative text. Very pleased.

Little known topic.

I can’t get enough of this book. It feels like I’m in a museum learning about this incredible Epic.

Good read

I always love these books for DK. I own 3. Clear, concise with beautiful pictures. Great for newbies.

The DK Ramayana is an extraordinary literary and visual achievement. Like its predecessor, the Mahabharata, it breathes new life into an ancient epic with stunning historical art, maps, and high-quality photography. It’s a fantastic read for adults and children alike, making it a perfect family heirloom. However, I’ve docked a star because of two baffling design choices by the publisher: 1. The Permanent "Sticker" Eyesore The cover art is beautiful, but it’s partially ruined by a permanent graphic, not a removable sticker, proclaiming "25,000+ copies sold." This belongs on a promotional flyer, not printed directly onto the front of a premium coffee table book. It’s a huge aesthetic distraction for anyone who appreciates book cover art. 2. Inconsistent Sizing (Beware Collectors!) If you’re planning to shelf this next to the DK Mahabharata, be warned: this book is roughly an inch shorter than the Mahabharata. For a series that is clearly meant to be collected as a set, this lack of consistency is incredibly annoying. It looks odd on a bookshelf and ruins the "matching set" vibe that most collectors are looking for. Final Verdict: Content-wise: 10/10. The storytelling and visual guide are top-tier and highly recommended for any home library. Presentation-wise: 6/10. If you can get past the printed sales brag on the cover and the uneven height on your shelf, it’s a must-own. Otherwise, the physical inconsistencies might drive you a bit crazy.

Ya de por si la epopeya del ramayana es fantástica, ahora ilustrada es mejor.

Ordered it for multiple family members, such a great addition!!

Immersing yourself in the ancient epic becomes a truly magnificent experience with DK’s The Illustrated Ramayana. The book presents the narrative of duty, love, honor, and redemption through accessible, engaging prose accompanied by hundreds of authentic Indian paintings, temple sculptures, and historical miniature artworks sourced from museums worldwide. Each chapter is thoughtfully contextualized with cultural sidebars, character family trees, geographical maps, and thematic breakdowns that make the multilayered wisdom accessible to both first-time readers and lifelong scholars. The heavy, premium archival-grade paper and embossed hardcover binding make it a cherished heirloom piece for family libraries as well as an exquisite coffee-table centerpiece.
