My cats LOVE this house!!!
I bought this house for my 3 outdoor cats. I received it 11/30/12 and they have lived in it almost constantly. I live in South Georgia and the winters are mild, but I wanted something that was enclosed that they could get in to when it dips into the 30's and 40's. They already had a heated bed (oval with heating pad in the sleeping pad) but nothing to block the wind and rain off of them in bad weather. I put this house on my covered front porch with the heated sleeping pad inside. They curl up all nice and toasty warm inside and stay in it almost all day and night! They are occasionally let inside when we are home, but when they are outside and it's chilly or downright cold, they are inside this little jewel! I like it a lot! I love the design; it's very attractive and I like that since it's on my front porch and also appreciate the fact that it is lightweight but sturdy. I have 3 cats ranging in size from 6 lbs. to 14 lbs.; they can all easily fit inside and have plenty of room to curl up and sleep. As a previous reviewer mentioned, I didn't order the optional plastic door flaps as my cats would probably shy away from that. Someone mentioned that when it rains, the rain comes inside. I don't experience that problem as I have mine on a covered porch, so not sure how it would do if out in the yard. Someone else mentioned they were unhappy with the roof that would crack and break because their 75 lb. dog liked to get up on the roof and lay. My thought there is that the roof on this house is not made for a 75 lb. dog to lay on it! No wonder it cracked and broke! It's the ROOF!! Used as it's meant to be used, my cats (and I) could not be happier! Also, as far as the reviewer who mentioned he got only part of it in one order and the rest came later and one reviewer mentioned that he never received anything but 2 roofs, I did not experience anything like that. All parts were included when I received it although the box was kind of beat up; everything was fine with the actual product inside. Also, I would mention that I had several years ago purchased a cat carrier made by this same company and made from the same strudy material (one reviewer compared it to the hard, strudy plastic that kids' playground stuff is made of) and it was a picnic-basket style carrier made from this material and it has held up for 10 years and looks like new! Very easy to clean. I would highly recommend this product to anyone with cats (or a small to medium-sized dog). I think as other reviewers mentioned that it would be a tight fit for a 75 lb. dog. Also, as previously mentioned, does great on a covered porch; not sure about how it would do out in the open as far as rain.

Easy to Assemble
I have indoor dogs, but one of them loves to spend most of the day outside in all but the worst weather. I bought him this dog house so he'd be more comfortable. I put the Cottage together myself, and it was quick & easy - just took a little strength. My boy loves his crate, so I figured he'd take to the dog house quickly. Turned out that he needed some time to adjust to the Cozy Cottage. I put a thick crate pad in it and let him get used to it at his own pace. I just provided positive reinforcement and some treats. After a couple of weeks, he started spending hours in the cottage every day.My dog is a 30 lb. corgi, and this size dog house is perfect for him. The recommended maximum size for the Cozy Cottage is up to 75 lb., but I don't think any dog larger than a border collie would be comfortable in this dog house.1/11/12 Update: We've had the dog house for a little over a year & it still looks like new. On cold days my corgi spends most afternoons napping in the Cozy Cottage. It's raining outside now, and he's quite comfy. Last winter I purchased the K&H Lectro-Soft Heated Outdoor Bed, Medium. It fits into the Cozy Cottage perfectly & gives just enough heat to keep a dog comfortable in cold weather.

Not Actually Insulated
This product is described as having insulation properties because of the hollow walls, but there is no actual insulation AT ALL. The parts are completely hollow. There are, however, what appear to be plugs in each piece so you can pry them out with a screwdriver and buy and use your own expanding foam insulation. Other than that, assembly is straightforward, although the pieces are really hard to push together (think Little Tykes), so I question how easily the roof will pull back off for ease of cleaning. There are holes in the floor for drainage, which will help with cleaning. The sliding vents for the upper windows are a nice touch for summer ventilation and winter weather protection and heat retention. If you want this house to be water-tight, however, I recommend caulking all of the joints because there are small gaps. Plenty big enough for the K&H Outdoor Kitty House, Heated, small food dish and Farm Innovators Model QT-1 1-Quart Heated Bowl, Green, 25 Watts to be kept inside of it. Hopefully this will help to keep a full-time outdoor cat warm enough and dry during our harsh Minnesota winters.

Easy to assemble, easy to clean
This house has worked great for our 50 lb. Border Collie. He is very destructive and has chewed up other houses, but hasn't been able to damage this one. Its so easy to hose off for cleaning. The assembly was smooth and simple. I worried it looked uncomfortable for our dog but he truly doesn't seem to mind. Would work great with a bed inside, very roomy, but our dog just eats the beds.

On a concrete surface? Stay away!
If you're planning to this house on cement, please for the sake of your pets, get something else.I've had this for less than a year, and the regular movement and bumping of my dogs has worn four neat quarter-sized holes in the base of the house. Also, when water drips on the roof, if follows the curvature of the plastic and comes inside the house! It's not as snug as it appears.Doors or flaps do not fit neatly onto this thing, and because it's plastic, screws can have a hard time holding. Do yourself a favor and look at your other options.
