GouldsJ10S Shallow Well Jet Pump

Nothing negative in this review is the pump's fault. Very happy with the pump, the quality, the packing. Installed this new pump and a new pressure tank with a tee. The pump primed with no issue, I was surprised at not having to fill the 200 foot line prior to priming. There was some water in the line still, but I would guess only 25% full at most. I poured water into the pump and turned it on. It did the rest. NOTE: Don't put a check valve between the pump and a pressure tank. The switch was mounted on the pump, and I had a tee with a check valve between the pump and tank. This caused the switch to fill up the tank and once the cutoff pressure was reached, an on/off/on cycle happened instead of cutting off. I read this is due to the check valve closing and causing pressure change at the switch. Maybe mounting the switch on the tee, which would be on the other side of the check valve would work, but I removed the check valve and replaced it with a ball valve and removed the handle. This way if I want to service the pump, I can close the valve, service the pump and open it back up to backfeed water from the pressure tank to prime the pump. I'm hoping this pump lasts a long time. The only issue with the pump, which isn't really an issue, is vibration caused by mounting my 1" pex lines to the floor joists. Otherwise the pump is quiet and very well made. I would purchase again if longevity isn't an issue. The manual was kind of useless for my install, because I wasn't just installing the pump. Different connection scenarios would be a helpful addition to the manual.

Arrived in good condition, was packed well. Installed about four or five months ago and no issues so far.

I live one house down from the public water tank and my water pressure is 25 psi (maybe). This won't drive more than a two sprinklers. So I added the Gould J10S back in 1990's. It finally died a couple of weeks ago. So I ordered a new one and it hasn't changed on the exterior. Disconnected the old unit and replaced with the new and I'm back to 70 psi ! Great product, very sturdy, not cheap but you'll get the longevity. I have it outside unprotected. And it just runs.

Best price available for a quality Goulds pump!!

Even though the price is quite high I was very excited to install this pump. It’s advertised as “Made in America“ and I found out that clearly it is made in China. Made in China is stamped on the inside of the housing. I found this out when the pump ran for a short time without water. After inspection of the insides I found out how cheaply the impeller, diffuser and volute are. These internal parts are more cheaply made than a pump that is 1/3 of the cost. when I attempted to buy new parts for this pump, I found it was very difficult to get parts and the only ones that are available are the same poorly made ones that it comes with. Also, the cost of getting these parts I was into the hundreds of dollars. I ended up just buying a new pump from tractor supply because I can get a brand new complete unit for $250. to kick it all off the pump from tractor supply is a better quality build than this pump.

The pump comes with the pressure switch on it. Ease of installation was great. pump performance is impressive. Ran for 1 minute and the whole system was charged to 50 psi including the new tank

We had a very, very old shallow well pump that took water from our aerator and fed it to the house line. Not much pressure and it finally got hot and blew out the pvc line coming into it. By some miracle we caught it within 15 minutes.Initial quick fix technician recommended this specific shallow well pump and we are glad we spent the extra bucks to get it. They set the pressure in line for my pump system and showed me how much more pressure there was by using the hose outside the pump house. WOW, what a big difference.I am used to pumps (mostly hayward) because we have had in ground pools for many years, I trust the Goulds name. Poor county so the installers didn't understand why I went with such a nice, expensive pump but I am glad I did.
