Imaginative, Beautiful and Touching Book Dealing with Loss
This is an absolutely gorgeous and inspiring book. I'm always looking for beautifully illustrated children's books (even before I had children) so I was very happy to find Davies' books. We also have On Sudden Hill which is charming, too. The illustrations are absolutely gorgeous and colorful and playful when appropriate. The compositions are inspiring, too. I loved how the author deals with the hard issue of Grandad "leaving" in a soft, imaginative and touching way.

Beautiful, positive story, we love it!
I think it's a beautiful, positive story with lovely colorful pictures. My little one enjoys the book and we read it every day since we bought it. Regarding the metaphor, it's like the Life of Pi, which story would you rather hear?I'm puzzled with the low stars reviews, do you really want to be telling your 2, 3, 4 years old 'the truth' what happens to people after they die? (Unless your 'truth' is even more colorful)Believing in this kind of stories is part of the childhood. Tooth fairies, Father Christmas, Grandad's Island... what's wrong with that?

Highly recommended!
This is a wonderful and emotional book.. I found myself in tears when I read it to my daughter, she finds the sorry very comforting as she herself is dealing with the loss of her great grandad who she misses dearly. Such a lovely way to explain to children about losing a loved one and will be buying more from this author.

Gift for My Grand Nephew who loved it
I bought this as a gift for a thoughtful young grand nephew who lost his Grandpa a few years ago. He really liked this book, and the Grandpa looked like his! :)
