It's actually Black and White, but its really pretty looks really nice at night because the white stands out.

It arrived rolled and covered in plastic

Q: Does this item need a rug pad if set on hardwood floors? Or is the backing pretty rubbery?

Not rubbery , but not excessively slippery. I have it without a pad on hardwood floors, and it's alright. But more than worrying about whether this rug has a slippery back or not, you should worry if this rug is legit. It's really plasticky and was not at all what I had expected. It doesn't look classy at all. I don't know how to describe it, but it's definitely not the look of a more natural fiber rug
