I loved this whole book overall. The only thing I did not like is that it has a slow ( yet necessary) start. However the adventure, mystery, and creative base of the book was amazing

My 4th grader and I read this. It’s an easy fun read. She thought it was okay. There are parts of it when it describes technical made up things about the balloons-that are boring.

As a 5th grade school teacher, I read this book to many students over the years. It was always one of my very favorites. Its been a delight to read it again in my retirement years.

I read this book in elementary school, decades ago. I have reread it several times since and it still holds up. I give copies of this to kids I tutor. Not only is there the element of fantasy and adventure, but also of hope and resourcefulness as the professor encounters a community of people who have intentionally created a utopia. Or have they?

30 years later, I bought if for my 5 yo, so I can read it to him.And it has lost none of its charm & adventure
