Beautiful Book, Classic Recipes
Arto Der Haroutunian wrote nothing but classics. This is a lovely book. Recipes are straightforward and, for the most part, well tested for the home kitchen. The book arrived in perfect condition and on time.

A good resource
One thing I find about Middle Eastern cookbooks is that their list of desserts often tend to be on the short side, and are heavily biased towards complicated and time consuming pastry creations. This patisserie obsession merely reflects the region's tastes of course, but most of us when creating a Middle Eastern meal would rather have other simpler options available to us.A resource like this is thus immensely useful for lovers of Middle Eastern food. There is still a large proportion of recipes involving pastry, but there are more than enough others, of varying levels of complexity, to choose from. "Middle Eastern" here means more than just the Arab world, so covering Greece, Turkey, the Caucuses and Iran too. As well as desserts in the sense of a dish to finish off a meal, there are other sweet foods here such as biscuits and other foods you might have between meals or as an accompaniment to tea of coffee, as well as sweet drinks and jams and preserves. The photographs are few - it's more about packing in as many recipes as possible rather than being stylish - but just enough to give the book a bit of character.

Pleased
Looking through my newly arrived copy I am pleased. Not only can I now make real Turkish delight as well as lots of diet ruining delicacies, but I am going to learn about food cultures of a number of countries. Only 4 stars though due to the recipe for orange cake, page 150.1 orange, squeezed110g (4oz) currents50g (2oz) walnuts225g (1/2lb) ??????????????????????????????then the rest of the recipe.Does anyone know what the 225g is? I can only assume it's flour, but which one? It surprises me that this has not been noticed and corrected in the 23 years since the original publication. If some one has a pre 2013 copy, would they be kind enough to look at their copy and see if it is an error in the earlier publications? If you do know what the missing ingredient is, please tell us.I am going to enjoy this book.

Another great book!
Just received my copy of this stunning book, full of great recipes and photos. Looking forward to making some of these recipes when people come to visit over the Christmas period, especially my favourite ghorayebah which I remember from my childhood as being AMAZING! Ideal present for food lovers with a sweet tooth!
