Bossa Nova USA

The album was a new press (if that’s the right term). I was amazed that for the price, it was brand new!!! My first album from Amazon and I wasn’t disappointed in the product content, quality of the vinyl, packaging, or delivery!

Fantastic LP, love Brubeck but hadn't heard this one. Shipping was, of course, fast and well packaged, was able to play same day as received. If you like great jazz, get this.

the recording could be better

Very disappointed. Didn't bother overpacking. just slapped a shipping label on the album and sent it. Corners of outstide cover were all bent by the time I got it. Record is fine but the sleeve is damaged. They don't usually do this. Very surprised.

[This review pertains to the vinyl LP release] I must admit, I vacillated back and forth several times before I made up my mind to purchase this LP. Boy, am I glad I did - it sounds very, very good! To start at the beginning, my uncertainty about buying was initially spurred by the "DMM" (Direct Metal Mastering) logo I noticed on the upper right corner of the reverse. For those not in the know, the quality of Direct Metal Mastering is not quite as good as the old-fashioned lacquer variety (or so it is said). However, given the fact that this album is not available from any other label, and it is one of my personal favorites among Brubeck's many releases, I took the plunge. Upon opening the shrink, I knew I was in for a pleasant surprise: the 180 gram vinyl was perfectly flat, and when I placed the stylus on it and music began to emerge, I discovered that the surfaces were dead quiet, and the music rich and sweet. After that, the music just sounded better and better until, unfortunately, the album came to an end following the bonus track, 'Fatha,' Brubeck's homage to jazz pianist Earl 'Fatha' Hines. Information regarding this release, e.g., mastering engineer, studio, etc., appears to be non-existent, save the fact that I gleaned from the insert that the label originates from Spain. No matter - it sounds great and any Brubeck (and LP) fan will love it!

If you are a fan of West Coast style jazz and Dave Brubeck in general, you will enjoy this release!It is the original quartet of Dave Brubeck on piano, Paul Desmond on alto sax, Gene Wright on bass and Joe Morello on drums.It is the quartet's take on the Bossa Nova craze of the early 1960s.In my opinion, this release is more enjoyable for its West Coast swinging jazz style that the Brubeck quartet is famous for and less so for its contribution to the Bossa Nova jazz scene. The title track "Bossa Nova USA" is my favorite on this release.

Ich vergebe fünf Sterne für die Musik von Brubeck! In den 1960ern hat quasi jeder Jazzmusiker von Rang und Namen eine Bossa-Nova-Platte gemacht, da jeder von dem Boom profitieren wollte und seinen eigenen Ipanema-Hit wollte (immerhin ist das berühmte Album Von Getz/Gilberto mit einem Grammy ausgezeichnet worden...). Diese Platte hier ist aber m.E. ein Juwel. Brubecks Quartet ist ohnehin rhythmisch eine der besten Combos gewesen und hat mit dem Bossa-Beat keine Schwierigkeiten und das Sax von Paul Desmond passt hier perfekt.Gekauft habe ich die Neuauflage da meine Original-Pressung doch arg poppt und knackt und kaum zu reinigen ist.Das Re-Issue ist fast schon klinisch rein, klingt wie eine CD auf 180 gr.Über das Label Waxtime ist im Netz kaum was rauszufinden, außer eher Negatives: Angeblich soll es sich hier um ein spanisches Label handeln, dass eine rechtliche Grauzone ausnutzt, um Platten ohne offizielle Genehmigung neu aufzulegen. Das würde auch die recht günstigen Preise erklären und den cleanen Sound - ein Mastering direkt von CD oder anderen digitalen Quellen scheint wahrscheinlich.

Questa etichetta si rivela sempre una buona scelta per quanto riguarda la registrazione.Brubeck è sempre grande, in questa versione "latina" è eccezionale.

Great 180 grams records. Great Bossa Nova.
