A Lion ton Guard us
This book was very heartfelt and sadIt tells about a girl whose father has gone to Virginia, AmericaHis kids are living in England and all of a sudden their mother dies. The only thing that the children have from him is a doorknob in the shape of the head of a lionSo they (the children; Amanda, Jemmy, and Meg) go on a boat to Virginia. They overcome many hardships but in the end, they find their father in a cabin in Jamestown. The doorknob shines as brightly like never before.

A fun and somewhat educational book for the young readers.
My daughter chose this book for her 3rd grade reading project. She did like the book, especially the main character Amanda. The book is set in 1609 Jamestown. The Freebolt children go on an adventure to find their dad. But, before Mr. Freebolt leaves for Jamestown he gives his children a door knocker made of brass in the shape of a lions head. This was to guard over them while he was away. My daugter liked the book because Amanda was fearless and did not give up. It's something I tell my daughter all the time. At times I wondered if she was listening to anything I told her. We'll, I think it finally started to stick especially after reading this really fun adventure. Recommend to grades 3-5.

Exciting story line
This was a very good book! My children and I are going through American history with Beautiful Feet History this year. We added A Lion To Guard Us as an extra read aloud. It fit in well. We read one chapter a night and my children were drawn into the story. They hated when a chapter ended and were even a little sad when the book was over.

Something good for School
This was a school project. And I must say it was a good book to read. With some conflicts that made the story better. The main characters are Jemmy a adventurous brave little boy. Amanda the oldest hard working sister. And Meg the youngest little sweetie. So I thought the book was good I would recommend it to anyone who likes adventure sadness and kids.

A must read for homeschoolers (or all kids!)
As a homeschool mom, it is alway as struggle to find a great book that also reinforces a history lesson. This book is both! After the death of their mother, three children struggle to get to America (Jamestown, VA) in search of their father. If your children are or will be studying this time in history this is a must read. I would recommend this book for 2nd graders through 6th graders depending on the reading level of your child. Or better yet read it together outloud. What a great historical fiction book for children.

School project
I was supposed to do a project on this book for school, and it was fun to read. But I felt it had no moral, and it could be better.

REVIEW BY 8 YEAR OLD GIRL.........I thought this book,(A Lion to Guard Us) was a great book. This exciting book took place before the Revolutionary war.It was a very descriptive. I felt worried at times. Amanda had to overcome many different fears; one was loosing her sister. I think you should read this book.
