Unexpectedly robust
Despite the mixed reviews, I found this to be substantial bit of kit. I have only used it on a 520 chain, which it handled easily, but with the different sized anvils and push pins I would be confident in tackling a heavier chain with it. The instructions only describe which parts to use for breaking and riveting but no great detail how to actually use them, and the press-plate is difficult to keep lined up over the link plate pins before they are pushed proud, so for that reason I only gave 4 stars for ease of use. The pins fit inside the larger threaded bar and seat onto a spring. They are then wound down with a smaller fine threaded insert. You need to position the breaker pin with only a millimetre or so protruding, and then wind the entire assembly down to contact the ground off link pin. You then wind down the smaller fine treaded bar to push the breaker pin through the link. Once the link pin is being pushed from the chain, the breaker pin follows it through and is kept straight by the chain. As long as you use the correct size breaker pin, don't have loads of it poking out before too start and grind off the link pin head, then you should have no trouble. The rivet tool is equally robust. I managed to split the hollow rivet wide open and break it by applying too much pressure. That was my fault and not the tool, but I mention this to demonstrate how surprisingly strong this is. The same kit is available from other sellers at varying higher prices, so if you need a chain breaker/riveter then you may as well get this one as its the lowest price you will find it for. All in all, this could only be improved with slightly more detailed instructions and perhaps a lock for the press plate to keep it lined up with the link plate pins as they push through. Two minor points, and certainly not enough to make me unhappy with this kit.

Awsome tool
Please grind chain a little first,, this is a great tool and well worth money, yet it's clearly from negative reviews that it's their first time using these tools.. you need to grind first not much enough to push through with this tool, or it same as forcing a square peg through round hole it never going to work... Grind first and this tool will last you many many years... Well built and strong and not cheap metal of which inexperienced say it is when it is not..this is as good as most expensive chain breaker at fraction of cost.. Very good buy from Amazon for a change and not ripped off as I have been previously and no help from am.. Buy it then light grind and use it's a great tool

Not fit for purpose
Not fit for purpose. Might work on a bicycle chain but defiantly not meant to be used on a motorcycle chain. Handle bent on first use, anvil piece 2 and 3 broke on first use along with the pressing plate.

Works mostly
Honestly, it works fine, used it on a 520 chain, ground the head off, and it pushed it through just fine, what I image people have done is set the removal pins way way too far out of the screw cover and they’ve started to bend, they haven’t noticed and the pins break, I used it twice to break links, it worked fine, however, I’m not 100% on the riveting, it did start to open up the tool and I’m not 100% sure it’s actually riveted it much at all, I’ll risk it but honestly, that’s the only gripe I have with it, is it cheap? Yes, does it work? Yeh mostly, especially for actually splitting the links, works just fine for that

Works perfectly if you read the instructions and watch a few youtube videos.
Didn't hold out much hope for this as it's cheap and some bad reviews. Yes the steel isn't the best quality but if used correctly it should work perfectly well for home/diy use. If you try to push out a rivet without first grinding the head off you're asking for trouble straight away. Anything other than a bicycle chain needs the rivets grinding first. The plastic box it came in isn't fantastic either but the overall product and price make it worth it.

Made of Weak steel
I’ve been a mechanic for over 20 years and I bought this to fit a chain with the rivet master link, I managed to install the chain to OEM specifications but the main body of the tool bent while riveting the master link on, My conclusion is it’s made of weak steel but it did the job

Best tool I have bought for less than £20 !
I wasn't too sure about this after reading other reviews. However it has worked flawlessly on breaking the old and fitting a new 520 x-link motorcycle chain. The 3.8mm pin was spot on for splitting the chain (after grind off the head of the pin). Then using the press plates to fit the new master link, and slowly tighten until it is the right width was so easy. The kit also comes with clear instructions in English. I just wish I had bought one years ago. [Note I haven't used the rivetter yet.]

The tool I got worked as it should. I cleaned the threads and then Lubed them with grease and when it was turning hard pushing the pins out I would just back it out a bit and then keep pushing the pins out. No problems at all breaking the chains. A great tool IMO for the price.
