It detaches. But, be careful and DO NOT GET IT WET, or it will not work. My radio is only a little over a year old and only worked sometimes. Now, it it doesn't work st all, and has been out of the weather.

The clock display stays on after the stereo is turned off. How much power will this pull from our boat battery?

you would have to look at the specifications if they are available or get a schematic. but it is a clock, so it can't be much. I'm sure your battery would stay charged for a couple months or more with the stereo hooked up and not turned on.

Does this unit have a detachable face?
