A classic and important read aloud
I love this book. I have read it many many times over the years to many classrooms full of kids with varying abilities. This book never ceases to evoke an emotional reaction from kids. It's based on the author's (Patricia Pollacco) experiences as a child with severe learning disabilities. Kids who struggle can really relate to her being bullied and made fun of. I love the happy, true ending of a teacher caring enough to find out what Patricia's difficulties were and helping her learn to read. And of course, Patricia becomes a talented prolific writer and illustrator of many many wonderful books. Lots of great activities on the internet for lessons to go along with this book as well.

A sweet story about learning differently
Beautiful story about a girl who doesn’t understand why she doesn’t understand or grasp reading the same way as her peers. Having that one adult that believes in you- well that’s all it takes. So cheers to all the teachers who make a difference! The ending is so sweet, you might tear up.

A Wonderful Book!!!!!!
This is a fantastic book. Thank You, Mr Falker is a wonderful story that can be used to help adults as well as children. For children this can be fantastic for teaching about bullying, learning disabilities, and even asking for help. With adults this book can be used to teach us how to be a good teacher or leader to the children and students that we could be around whether we are a parent, teacher, or just a citizen. I think that it is even better that this is based on a true story about the author and the fact that she struggled with reading just like some students do. This book is very relate able and used for so many reasons to help everyone no matter their age.

Can one man make a difference just doing his "job"???
I am collecting Patricia Polacco books for my children. We received our first, "bun bun button" in the mail through a program called Books from Birth that is sponsored by Dolly Parton. Children who are signed up at birth for this free program receive one book per month till they are five years and go to school. (Excellent Charity but that's another review) This is her story. It is amazing to think that something as ordinary as a day at school and as simple as a teacher who tries can change the life of one person. And that this one person can in turn change the life of millions of people through her writing. Had he not cared, and she never learned, my children and I would have never sat down and read this amazing stories that are told through her children's books. Our lives are fuller because of her. Her life is fuller because of him. (Mr. Falker) One kind act or one caring heart, can make a difference......this is a tribute to that truth. It is an excellent book. All of hers are. Patricia Polacco never fails to touch the heart.

A must
This is a glorious and wonderful book. It seems so incredible to read and realise that wow, with all the pressure my daughters went through trying to learn to read, I am sure no-one had stopped to talk about why they needed to learn to do that. And the book does that so well and simply, how profound and moving. The girl in the book suffers several issues, she seems to suffer from a learning disorder, probably dyslexia, and self-esteem is very low due as she falls behind her classmates. Also she goes on to become bullied. I had bought it for its high reviews as a book about bullying, but in fact it touched us all a lot as it so well conveyed a kid's experience of a learning disorder.I have sent it on to several friends / cousins. One was overwhelmed when she read it to her daughter, who had just come home in disgrace from school with a very bad term report. Reaching page 6 or 7, the girl burst into tears and cried to her mum "Mummy, Mummy! It's ME! The book is writing about me !" ...

Teach about Differences
This is a great piece of children's literature to use at the beginning of the school year to teach students about learning differences. We reference Trisha often and students with dyslexia proudly said they were like the main character.

Muy bueno
Muy bonito. Llegó a tiempo, sólo que la portada estaba algo arrugada, pero todo bien.

Moving
Very moving and very inspiringThe illustrations are subtle. The loneliness of the heroin, the vicious circle of disappointing/ hiding/ etc... and a teacher who believes in you, whom I hope every one in her or his life will meet at least once...
