Summer (Seasons board books)

Enchanting Picture Book
Purchased this book as a Summer Solstice present for my two boys, ages 2 and 15 months. The whole family loves all of the books in this seasonal series but this one is particularly wonderful. The idyllic scenes of childhood are refreshing and the pictures filled with detail. I think I see something new in each picture each time we look through the book. As much as my children enjoy these books now (they bring them to me multiple times a day), it is fun to think about them making up stories to go with the pictures as they get older. I have also taken to buying the appropriate season book for friends as baby shower or children's birthday gifts and all have enjoyed them.

Racially troubling
I love this book series. Autumn is one of our favorites. However, even though my daughter loves this book as well, I am troubled by the depiction of the only unambiguously African American person in the book. This little boy appears twice, once playing on the beach and the second time angry and upset that a little white boy is pushing his floaty-toy. None of the other children in Autumn, Spring, or Summer (we don't have Winter) are portrayed as being angry. Why is this little African American boy singled out? I'm all for depicting a wide variety of emotions in children's books, but this I believe is a troubling error that potentially furthers unconscious racial stereotyping in young children. I have since removed it from our reading choices. :(

Perfect for multilingual kids
My son is being raised trilingual. Because this series of books has no text and the situations that they describe are universal, they are perfect for multilingual kids. I can talk about the scenes in whatever language I am talking to the child at the time, and am also able to present the same set of words in different languages. The pictures are very detailed and realistic. There's also a nice progression in each season depicted. For e.g, summer starts with children catching fish at the lake for their aquarium, then children playing at the beach, flying kites, eating ice-cream, family time indoors and outdoors, and finally the first day of school signaling the end of summer.

A very beautiful set of books
Wordless yet extraordinarilly beautiful and detailed in illustration. The seasonal books (there are four of them for each season) have an old world's charm and peace. Many Waldorf websites recommend this book, so do a few Montessori supply websites. My two year old son and I enjoy reading them together so much. I make up stories, and my little boy loves pointing out details in the books. The beauty of the books will not disappoint. Children respond to such beauties.

Love these books!
My 2 year and 2 month old loves looking at the soft images in this book. Every time we read I narrate what I see and make up little stories. He loves seeing other kids doing various activities

Beautiful book!
This series of seasons books by Gerda Muller were highly recommended by other parents. I can't be happier with them. There are no words/plot, just engaging scenes of children doing seasonal activities. My two year old can't get enough of them. The pictures are so active and full of detail that they capture his imagination and he pours over the pictures and talks about what he sees. This is a wonderful way to introduce seasons to a child.

Must buy
All of these books are beautifully done. Must buy! Just make sure they are not coming from U.K. Because it takes too long!

Great book
This is a great book to help your toddler or young child learn about the different seasons. Beautiful illustrations too. We own all 4. I originally ordered the box set however the books were smaller than the ones you buy individually so I returned it and bought them separate instead. Highly recommend.
