Compact and durable, rods store inside the wooden base for easy transport.
I have both variants, diamond and fine grit rods and a set with medium and fine grit rods. The diamond rods are handy for taking more metal off to achieve an apex on a dull knife, smooth it out using the fine rods or switch to my other set to use the medium and then the fine rods, depending on the condition of the blade and it's steel composition. Two edge angles are available, 25 and 20 degrees (for included angles of 50 and 40 degrees). I have never used the 25 degree holes as I prefer a finer edge, so the 20 degree holes are fine for my camp/bush knives. To that end, it would be nice if Lansky had 3 sets of holes to accommodate a 15 degree (30 included angle) for finer ground blades such as my Spydercos. One worthwhile modification that I made to both of these sharpeners was to glue a couple of 3.5" long leather strips on each side of the wooden base. One is flesh side out, the other is the frosted side. I don't put compound on these as I have found a good flesh side does a sufficiently good job of finishing an edge in field and it's easier to keep clean. Often, just a few minutes of stropping at the end of the day will keep an edge decently sharp but if necessary it's easy to set up for sharpening on the rods.Small, solid and with self-contained rod storage make these sharpeners indispensable and easy to take along on hikes, ATV or 4x4 trips.Recommended.

Fast, easy and effective
I've tried several types of knife-sharpening systems including different types of stones and electric sharpeners. Until I purchased this Lansky system, I was never able to sharpen any of my knives to a truly sharp edge. Not that I have a collection of high-quality knives. Most of mine are budget-type folding knives and a few camping knives that I purchased based on price instead of quality. Even so, the budget knives should still be capable of being honed to a good, sharp edge even if that sharpness won't last very long with repeated use of the knife. Well, the first four knives I sharpened with the Lansky system became sharp enough to shave with. We're talking M-Tech and similar style folders here. So I can highly recommend this system. To me, it's well worth the money and I'll probably purchase another one as soon as this one starts showing any significant wear on the sharpening rods. It is incredibly easy to use and gives remarkable results in much less time than a traditional sharpening stone. I don't think it would be as easy to use with knives that have blades longer than six or seven inches, but one of these days, I'll test out some of my larger knives to see how this tool works with them. In the meantime, I'm loving this tool. It works, it's fast, and it's easy.
