One great French Press coffee maker
It was a long search to find the best French Press coffee maker for me. I spent at least 5 hours (may be more) reading and researching. And I ended up buying this why. You might be struggling to decide on which one is the best for you, so here is my review and reasons why I bought this one. I hope it will help you.Selection process:I had several wishes:1) Made in USA or Europe2) Quality of materials and product3) Usability (easy to use and to clean)4) PriceAfter a quick search I realized that there was no ideal French Press coffee maker. However, I realized that I have several favorites and Frieling was the number 1 for me.Why?1) Frieling is a solid professional brand2) Product had good reviews3) Product looked solidly built.Concerns that I had:1) Made in China (I have nothing against China but I prefer products that are built in here or in Europe for, I assume, obvious reason)- Nothing can be done about that. But again, Frieling is a solid brand and their French Presses looked not cheap.2) Quality of Steel (Everyone should be concerned about it since you will eat/drink food that was made there and we consumed enough toxins as it is)- I contacted Frieling about it and they answered me very quickly. Thank you, Frieling! Other companies are not that professional. For example, Cousinox ignored all my emails. However, the answer from Frieling was not what I wanted to hear. They told me they use either Chinese or Korean stainless steel from a big Korean manufacturer but they assured me that their 18/10 stainless steel was of high quality. I hoped for German, Russian or American 18/10 stainless steel but at least it was not a noname brand one from G*d knows where.I thought hard about those two minuses, plus the product was not cheap. But at the end, I felt it was the best French Press I could find and I decided to buy Frieling Brushed 18/10 Stainless Steel French Press, 23-Ounce. I paid $79 for it, I see that now it is $59.So, it has been two years and I love it and gave it 5 stars.1) The coffee maker looks like new and is beautiful. I have used it at least 100 times, most likely more. I am glad I decided to get a brushed one. They always look like new for a long time since micro scratches are not noticeable and no finger prints.2) It is made well. You can see it is not a $20 one.3) It is very easy to clean. I have owned at least 4 different french presses before and always had issues. With this one, I just put a plunger under running water and that is it. Plus, all the parts are dishwasher safe. I usually hand wash it ones every two weeks. Put it in dishwasher at least 10 times too and had no issues whatsoever.4) Makes good coffee - only remember about a 4 minute rule.5) I purchased some parts (screens, plunger stick) but it looks like the original parts will last for years to come.I am going to add some pictures too.Good luck in your search for a perfect French Press maker and I hope it was useful for you!

Built like a tank.
I've had this coffee press for 7 years now. It is WELL worth the money. I use it daily. It's officially a member of my family. The pot still looks like new. Never had to replace a single part. I always handwash so it's always available. Usually I drink coffee immediately after it's been brewed. Occasionally I have come to a half full pot after a few hours and observed the coffee was still warm.If you're single and a coffee fiend (like I am), this will meet your needs. If your SO is a coffee fiend as well, get a larger version of this pot. If you're a couple of average coffee drinkers this size pot should meet your needs as well.Advice for a good pot: Always grind your beans prior to brewing. Use a kitchen scale to measure as they are more accurate than scoops. For the perfect brew temperature every time, heat water in a kettle, take it off the heat when it whistles and then wait 45 seconds before you pour it over the coffee grounds. Put the plunger on the top. Press down after 4 minutes. Enjoy! If the plunger ever becomes stuck it means too many fine grinds are clogging up the mesh. Grind coarser next time. To save your current pot, don't force the plunger. You won't break it, instead will end up with a mess in your kitchen and can be burned by the hot coffee. Take the plunger off the pot, rinse the mesh part off in the sink with some of the remaining hot water from the kettle (or very hot tap water) and then plunge again. Worked every time I had to do this. This pot is also superb for making cold brew. Grind the beans like you'd normally do and place them in the pot. Now pour cold water in the pot. Put the plunger top on the pot but do not press down. Put it in your fridge for 24 hours. Take it out of your fridge and then plunge. You will have delicious cold brew coffee that's lower acid than traditional coffee. You can also brew tea loose tea with this pot. I don't have much experience with this, but I've done it a few times and it works just like it does with coffee.

Disappointed
Just not as advertised. It claims to be good at two things... 1) durability 2) keeps coffee hot. In reality it disappoints in both tasks.1) the stick "gasket" broke off the lid. I see this happening in other reviews. It happened to me too. Didn't expect this with normal use in year 1.2) it's not great at keeping coffee hot. It's average to below average. Considering it advertises "double wall" I might consider this a failure. As a point of comparison, I took my double wall water bottle, one of the most common models , typically $30 or so. I put hot coffee in it... This water bottle did much better at insulating and holding heat. A double wall should not result in the exterior of the container to get hot (or cold)... This frieling item gets hot... That's evidence of a failure to insulate. Loss of the heat traveling to warm the exterior. Failure.Considering the price... A big failure. You really has one job.The mesh filter fit snugly. However I had to bend a metal collar to prevent it from a scratching the inside.Cleans up easily....Overall it works as well as a $35 item... But I paid over $90.Save your money get a cheaper one or find a better one.

sad, but hoping for a better experience on my next attempt...
I would like to note that I have already purchased a replacement press (same make/model) as I'm hoping that this issue is a isolated one. The problem with the press I received was that the handle wasn't fully welded to the press itself... the handle was practically hanging off of the little bar that connects to the main body of the press. I'm hoping the replacement press doesn't have any quality issues, as I really to like the design of the press as a whole.

The rivet on the lid is a fatal flaw
Almost immediately the rivet on the lid detached. The press is still usable but the lids gets filled with water/liquid over time. I contacted the comapany and the warranty required shipping to the US. So it was worthless. I recommend checking out the Mueller brand instead. It's half the price and doesn't have this flaw.

Solid Little Press
I've broken so many glass beakers that it was time to upgrade to stainless steel. Mine is an 8 oz. capacity (baby bodum), which I verified with water and a measuring cup. However, the actual coffee yield is LESS than 8 oz. because of the grinds at the bottom taking up space and absorbing water, etc. When making my coffee, I fill it right to the point where the base of the spout indentation begins, about an inch from the top. There is no marker or line, so you have to eyeball it. A smidgeon higher, and you'll have grinds in your coffee. A solution would be to only fill it to BELOW the spout, but the yield is so small that I go right to the base of the spout and use a small strainer when pouring my coffee. DO NOT try to fill it higher, or else you will have hot water and grinds spray out as you begin to push the plunger down, no matter how gently.Anyway, I read a lot of reviews and decided to go with the Frieling, despite the high price point. It's a solid press, and the coffee does not have any metal taste, as I've read with other brands. Although I wish it yielded a full 8 oz. of coffee, I'm still quite happy with it.Amendment: I just finished my coffee and thought I'd measure again before dumping the grinds and washing up. I poured tap water into the unit, pressed it, and poured the brown water into a measuring cup. Just a hair shy of 8 oz. Hmmm... sorry about that. I'll change my rating from 4 stars to 5.

Great press!
Used one of the smaller models for ages and decided we needed something a bit bigger. Item arrived with some scratches on the plunger and the seller reached out immediately. Apparently this is common with their machining process as she sent pics of a few more that had the same thing. She gave me her direct contact and said to call if there are every any issues. Great service!Solid press regardless. Thick insulated wall, keeps coffee warm for a while but of course as it sits in the grounds the flavor takes a hit. If anything the insulation keeps the water hot during brewing. Easy to disassemble and clean. They seem to have been updated in the past few years as they now feature a double mesh filter. Much smoother coffee than the old version.

I'm glad I've got it!
Received it yesterday and had my first coffee this morning - excellent! I'm a very picky on coffee, "espresso drinker" all my life, had all different coffee machines - I was a bit sceptic, "to buy or not to buy", as it's not a cheepy one....The taste is great, easy to prepare and easy to clean. Plus, as I'm an "early bird" always felt guilty, that the noise of my espresso machine may wake the rest of the family up - well, this "French Press" coffee is a very quiet one.Just one thing remains to be seen - how long it'll last, hopefully for a couple of years, looks very solid made, cross fingers!
