Toolite 49492#2 Square Point Shovel, 48" Wood Handle

It's a sturdy shovel but wear gloves because the handle isn't smooth at all. Every time I pick up I keep thinking I'll get splinters or cut up my hands. A little more time in smoothing out the handle would have been nice.

You might think spending $60 for a cat litter shovel is crazy but I would disagree. I'm a 63 year old average strength male who hates getting his face and lungs close to cat litter boxes. We chose to buy plastic tubs over typical small cat litter boxes because tubs have 11" sides compared to low sides on a typical cat litter box. The high tub walls reduce the amount of litter the cats can kick outside the tub. I cut down part of one wall (with a dremel) to make an entry for the cats. The high sides also make it easy to sift/shovel the litter with this large shovel. We only fill the tubs about 4 to 5" high with litter. It takes me about 5 to 10 minutes to completely clean all 3 tubs!I use a 13 gallon white trash bag and a couple 2 inch office binder clips attached to a waste basket to prevent the bag from collapsing as I fill it with waste. The bags get heavy quickly so I don't load much in each bag. A simple short rotation of the shovel side to side creates the sifting action needed to separate the litter from the waste. I think the manufacturer improved the handle based on some negative reviews about splinters. The handle on mine came sanded and varnished with no splinters.

Good tool, invaluable if have to shovel mud. I used mainly for sifting out big chunks of ash to save in outdoor wood boiler and valued the long handle.I was also using it to shovel wood chips and (no fault of the tool) it was run over by a delivery truck snapping the handle. I went online to see about replacing it with a synthetic handle and it was going to cost over $55 for the handle. Instead I found a different brand that was also 48 inches, synthetic handle for like $7 more than the handle along.

Little on the expensive side BUT worth it. Well made. I bought it to sift through the sand in my two horseshoe pits to remove leaves and acorns . Beats getting on all fours with a cat liter box scoop/screen! No more sore knees and back. :) 20 times faster.

We use as a large pooper scooper for cleaning out the waist in our chicken coop we is sand like cat litter

Got this for our chicken aviary, which has sand flooring. It's quite a work out because of the heavy wooden handle. Yes, it's heavy-duty and well-made, but for daily chores, it's a lot of extra work! I'd recommend a smaller scooper for those looking to clean out sand-floored coops.

Works well on lake muck, but the shovel was delivered with rust spots all over it.

This is great! I use it for sifting out my chickens coop and it works amazing!
