This is an expansion that adds some depth to the game. Not to much to overwelm, but enought to be a little bit more challenging. The product came in great conditions.

Easy to learn & makes game play more complex (in a good way)

I received this expansion about a week ago. We own an original (first edition) base game of 7 Wonders. This expansion is our first one and has had reviews as the best one to buy. You will need the base game, but you DO NOT need the updated (second edition) base game to play. It works fine with either edition. Note: the game site lists that it is best to keep the 2nd edition expansions with the 2nd edition base game because of how they rebalanced the game. It still works, but please understand that. The cards in this expansion are different looking (black backs), but this expansion never mixes cards into the base game, so there is no need for them to look the same. The two wonders (cities) that it comes with are physically larger pieces of cardboard than the original base game wonders, but they play the same. I wish they were smaller, to conserve table space. I also wish they had the small wonder cards for the two new wonders (cities) in case you like to "blind draw" your wonders at the start of the game.

My family LOVES 7 Wonders, and we play it A LOT! We have the other expansion and use it regularly. This expansion is really good, but it's much harder to learn and handle. My 10-year-old plays 7 Wonders easily and has for the past few years, but this expansion gives him difficulty. The required planning for a game is a pretty big step up from just the base game.I definitely recommend this, but not for younger players.

Leaders adds some additional drafting of cards before the 7 wonders game starts where you can pick a series of leaders you can play at the top of the epochs following the same resolution rules as the base game. What this does is allows you to have a more focused first round.Usually first epoch of 7 Wonders you're kind of just grabbing whatever. And then you build off your foundation for second and third. Leaders gives you a bit of a goal since you have a sneak peek into potential future cards. Very lightweight expansion that nudges your thinking to be more focused in the first round.

2nd best expansion for the game

Totally fun expansion. The new boards are super cool. Love the extra leader cards that you get to play with. Fun and quick pace.

My son brought the "base game" while visiting. Steep learning curve but enjoyable. Thought he may enjoy this Add-On game pack.
