Great brace for post-surgery support
I bought this brace to use as support following ankle surgery. Four weeks post-surgery, I was moved to a boot but I wanted work on my strength and range of movement when at home and the boot was too restrictive. Although able to hobble around without the boot, I found that having a supportive wrap was much more helpful. I decided to order a brace because it seemed easier than continually wrapping and unwrapping my ankle. Based on the description and reviews, this on seemed to be a good fit for what I needed. The brace is sturdy and seems well-made. The brace fits well and the laces allow you to adjust how tight or loose the fit is. It provides me with the support I was looking for but still allows some flexibility in my ankle. Although almost as flexible, I found that I had less of a limp in my gait when wearing the brace compared to the wrap. The only con is that the material is very rough and uncomfortable against my skin and the eyelet seams run right along my surgery scars; however, adding a thin sock under the brace completely solved that problem. The photo on the box it comes in show it being worn with a sock so maybe that is the how it is designed to be worn. Plus the sock will help keep the brace cleaner, so I would probably wear one anyway.

Good brace, not as durable as it used to be
I've been using this as a preventative measure ever since I first rolled my ankle playing tennis, and have been wearing it ever since. I recently bought a new one to replace my worn down one from high school, and it works just the same. It's got a really firm feel, and you really feels like it restricts the movement of your ankle, which is good since you want to prevent it from rolling again. Fits into my shoe just fine too.Warning: Do not wash these in a washing machine, and definitely DO NOT put them in a dryer. They will shrink, rendering them unusable. Wash them by hand, let them air dry. Washing them in a washing machine also seems to weaken the seams.UPDATE: After less than two years of use, the ankle brace has completely torn. I'm really disappointed with the current model. I bought the exact same ankle brace from McDavid back in 2012-ish, and I've been using that thing since high school, and it has lasted to this day. I still use it. However, for some reason, this new model doesn't have as much longevity. It's still the same brand, but I guess they changed the formula or manufacturing for it, since it doesn't feel as durable.

No stays, false advertising
There’s no “spring steel medical stays” in this brace. That’s why I can fold it over like this in the picture. I double checked the box—no stays anywhere. I read this in other reviews before I ordered but thought it must have been a fluke. Nope. These are falsely advertised.

Good not Great
I purchased a couple difference ankle braces to try out in order to select the most comfortable option. This was my final choice, as it felt reasonably comfortable. Purchased the size XS for my women size 7 - slim to medium width. The Band across my metatarsals (over the arch) felt snug and after a few hours it was quite sore. I placed small foam discs (the kind used for cosmetics products) in the most tender areas and even with the brace off the pain doesn't easily subside. I am hoping this breaks in a little more, or perhaps the elastic strap that goes over the metatarsal needs to be cut open a bit.Over all it seems these lace up braces appear to all be quite similar.

Looks great, fits poorly
This is just my circumstance; I ordered this brace because my surgeon recommended it by name (get a McDavid, he said). When it arrived, I tried to put it on... and it was impossible. I had measured my foot before ordering, I was careful about it (especially since I was expected to wear it for about 3 months after surgery). Despite my work, it was no use; the darn thing didn't fit my foot. Fortunately I had kept the original packaging and, thanks to Amazon's efficient return system, I was able to send it back and get a refund in less than a week. As for the brace... I ended up getting one directly from the doctor's office.Just FYI: this brace has some metal bars on the sides, and the section around the heel has an elastic material that may make it difficult to put on. At least, that was my case. The brace I got from my doctor's office has neither bars nor elastic, and it still provides the support I need. I won't give the brace one star, but I wasn't entirely happy with it, so it gets only three from me.

BEST ANKLE SUPPORT EVER!!
I ordered several of these type of ankle support as I rolled my ankle going out the door off the sill and injured it pretty bad and I was given that typical large boot to wear and it was very clumsy. So as soon as this arrived, I put it on, ( Large) and it fit really snug so I ordered the x large. I wear a size 11 to 12 depending on the shoes and went off their sizing chart. This is the best support with the laces and high ankle support. I was able to wear this with my Timberland work boots and it kept my ankle very secure. Once home I do wear the boot to bed and then this during the day. Note: this was against my foot doc's orders. He didn't advise it as he wanted me to wear the boot for 3-5 weeks, 24 hrs a day, exception; showers. So for now, My program is the boot at night while sleeping, and this during the day. Sure my ankle is sore but it's healing and for me, this works. You have to make that decision on your own if you go against any doctor's orders as I did. I sent the other ankle supports back as they provided no ankle support.

See picture for sizes. Good buy.
A lot of people were asking for sizes in the questions, so I've uploaded a picture of the back of the box which has the sizing advice (not sure why that's not on the product description but oh well). I'm a size 10 and a medium fits me well. It also fits fairly well inside my football boots even when I wear socks. Really sturdy, no particular pressure points which I've noticed so far and feels like it's giving a lot of support. Happy with the purchase.

This is probably the best ankle brace there is
This is the 2nd one I've bought of this brand and I can't recommend it enough to protect delicate ankles. I've had two similar ones from other brands but they've deteriorated after several years of use and from being worn and washed. These braces seem more durable because of the woven material. Both my ankles are wonky from bad sprains and strains over many years of football and these ankle boots prevent me rolling over on my ankles and support them, whilst providing the mobility necessary for running, turning and kicking. I wouldn't play football or go running without them. At 43, I reckon these ankle braces have extended my football playing 'career' by at least 5 years. And I plan to continue playing. The only slight downside is that the eyelets seem to show rust rather soon, after these ankle braces are washed for the first time. Not a deal breaker.

Reliable, confidence-building support
I rolled my ankle a couple of weeks ago and aggrivated a recurring injury. I purchased the McDavid Lightweight Ankle Brace based on other positive reviews, and I must say that it lives up to expectations. I take a size 10.5 men's shoe, and I find that the medium, while very close fitting, gives me the support I desire. I was tempted to return it for the large, but after a few days of constant wear it fits me as I think it should. I would say, however, that there is still a reasonable amount of play in ankle, so if you are looking for something that essentially locks the ankle then this probably isn't what you're looking for. I wear mine with with a thin cotton sock (to avoid rubbing) and my hiking books and it works perfectly.

Best ankle brace ever bought
Very sturdy brace. I play Ultimate Frisbee and have a niggle on an ankle but this keeps it secure, while still giving enough flexibility to play.Don't forget to wear it in though, I didn't (due to time restrictions - my own fault!) and the blisters were horrendous. Fits like a glove now though.Would have appreciated the sizing being easier to figure out (didn't get a clear guide until I bought it, and realised I had a size too large.. it still fits fine though)

Very pleased with the product
Ordered this item as I needed something to protect my ankle post injury. Have used it for a month now and I am really happy with it. It fits my ankle perfectly and prevent it from more damage. I would say that this ankle brace is perfect for people that struggle with standard sizes like me. My foot is fitting small size but the top of my ankle is bigger for small size. Due to the laces this is not a problem anymore. I ordered originally another brace with a strap but had to return it as it was too big for my foot and too small on the top so the strap would not stick. Overall I am very happy with my purchase and soon will be ordering another one for the other ankle.
