I was unable to play 4K ultra HD disc on my Windows 10 computer
I own an earlier generation Pioneer Blu Ray drive and have found it to be a great performer. Having recently acquired a 4K ultra HD disc I purchased this unit in order to read and play the disc on my Windows 10 computer. I downloaded the bundled Cyberlink software suite, but even with this I was unable to play the disc. I tried other players too, such as VLC, and was unable to play the disc. Cyberlink tried to persuade me to purchase an upgrade to their software to overcome the problem with the software that came with the drive, but an extra $60 for that is over the top. I have set up a return for the Pioneer drive and will purchase instead a 4k ultra HD player so I can watch the disc on my TV screen.

Might work in a different region
I bought this because I believed it would work natively with the MakeMKV app. It's supposed to. It didn't even show up on my Intel 7th gen Nuc i7 BNH. It might be because I'm in Australia and it came from the UK which is a different region, but I spent a couple of hours trying to get it to show up on my computer and decided to return it rather than waste more of my life trying to get it to work. It might well have been a region issue, but according to forums I read it should have worked.

Does NOT work with AMD Processors
I saw someone post the question as to whether or not this product works with AMD. Maybe they were referring to AMD GPU's, I'm not sure. To clarify, it does NOT work with AMD processors. Playing 4k Blu Ray HDR discs requires Intel "SGX" (Software Guard Extensions) which does not work on an AMD platform (it may be possible to hack it/spoof it somehow, but I'm talking "out of the box" functionality).I own 3 computers which I tested this drive on, using Cyberlink PowerDVD 20 Ultra. The software provided with the drive (PowerDVD 14) is extremely old and does not support 4k playback; rather you can run standard blu rays with it (maybe, I'm not sure what it supports anymore as again, it's quite old).As far as I know, PowerDVD 20 (and probably 19) are the only available software packages that allow you to play 4k Blu Ray discs, so you're pretty much locked in to buying one of those if you want to use this drive for its intended purpose. As mentioned, I own 3 systems.Sytem 1: AMD Threadripper 3960x w/RTX Titan-Playback was impossible because of the lack of SGX support.System 2: HP Spectre x360 OLED 4k laptop w/10th Gen i7-Playback worked fine, albeit somewhat sluggish load times for the movie. Looks amazing on the OLED panel as one would expect.System 3: Intel i5 9600k w/RTX 2060 EVGA KO-Playback works fine, but once again somewhat sluggish on the load times. I think that's a limitation of the Pioneer drive itself. Future generations may be faster on the read rate. Tested this on my LG Nano IPS TV, worked well and looked fantastic.I haven't tested many movies yet so I'm not sure if there are any films this is not compatible with/may need a firmware update. I tested the original "Predator" in 4k, and "Ghostbusters", both of which are older movies but worked well. Predator just released recently in 4k however so despite the age of the movie itself, it is a brand new release as far as I know so would likely have been created using the latest standards. It played well and looked as you would expect an aging film remastered to 4k to look. The drive is nice looking/aesthetic, has a fairly slim profile and is easily portable. I'm not ready to rock by bringing it along with my HP Spectre and can enjoy super-high quality films on the go. I think that unfortunately discs are a dying format and eventually we'll all be forced to stream our media, but for now if you want to watch uncompressed videos at the highest quality, this is the way to go about it.Overall I'd give the product 4/5 for not coming with useful software, and because you HAVE to use an Intel-based system (that's not Pioneer's fault, it's a DRM issue which it seems that AMD has not gotten on board with supporting).*Update*You cannot play 4k discs on a dedicated GPU, period. The display MUST be connected to your IGP (ie, your motherboard's HDMI output). If you try to play a movie while connected to an Nvidia GPU (haven't tested AMD), you'll get a message about how your card isn't capable of playing UHD discs and/or your drivers must be "out of date".If you're using a desktop, ensure your motherboard's HDMI port is 2.0b or higher or you won't be able to play HDR content (4k will still work, just not the HDR portion).

Everything I Expected
A little pricey considering the included software. Performed as advertised. I like the button release better than I thought I would. Prefer a little longer cable. Included disc is a nice touch that helped me choose this drive over some others.
