When finished, it's beautiful!
ROKR is a very reputable manufacturer of these types of kits. It comes with picture instructions but no words, since it is sold around the world. You will need some mechanical aptitude to understand the diagrams, but some help from an adult will help you. The ORDER of assembly is very important. If you miss a step, you will be taking it back apart. Every thing fits together perfectly, which is amazing. No glue needed. Be careful taking the parts out of the sheets, since some are quite thin and fragile.Pay attention to where you are to sand or wax. These are not that well explained in the pictures. We did have some problems with getting all the parts to rotate with the music box. Don't give up. Just keep adjusting. This is probably the only real troublesome part.Overall, we love it

Careful putting together
This is not my first wooden piece to put together but it was harder than the rest. This piece was also a harder to read the directions. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get it to play because of mistakes I made I wasn't able to fix after putting together, but it is beautiful.

Beautiful but does not run smoothly continually needs manual assistance.
This is the 2nd music box we have purchased from ROKR, enjoyable to listen to and put together is fun.It has the potential to be a beautiful product but once fully assembled it does not run smoothly, it needs manual assistance to play therefore it doesn't run without someone continually rotating the music knob. But it is nice to look at.

A Nice Challenge
My granddaughter is 14 and loves to assemble things. She said this took her 6 hours and that it was so much fun!! Plus she has a unique jewelry box which plays a pretty melody. Definitely a great gift for someone with the tenacity to stick with a semi-difficult project.

Cute idea, just too delicate to work.
I hate to say this, and I HATE leaving negative reviews of products. I wanted to like this so much. I got two of these products as Christmas presents for my kids (the mechanical music box and the solar system one). So I spent almost all of Christmas day trying to build the jewelry box with my daughter (and later, by myself). We usually love building things. We're a big LEGO family. But this thing is just too delicate and too flimsy to work. It's all made of balsa wood, and half the pieces break as you're trying to pop them out of the premade molds. Basically, the problem is simply that every step relies on a teensy tiny piece of wood--like, half the size of an ant--nesting perfectly, or in some cases wedging perfectly, into another piece of wood. And they just don't fit that well. Even with sanding and waxing, the pieces often just don't fit into each other. And then you try to force them, and they break. At one point, I literally gave up on the "screws" (read: pieces of wood less than a millimeter wide) and just super-glued pieces together. There's a whole spring mechanism in the middle that's really hard to work around, too. I worked on it for hours, gave up several times, finally finished it, and--surprise, surprise--it doesn't work (the music won't play and gears won't turn). I just don't have it in me to take it apart and try to find the problem. I wish it had just had less pieces, a couple more "real" screws, and, well, I just wish it had worked. Sorry to be a bummer. But I do NOT recommend these things.

Fun - but challenging
I loved the challenge, it was fun to assemble. It was even fun to try to get the gears to work with the music box. What I find disappointing is how it falls apart so easily once assembled. You have to be careful to move it from the bottom; otherwise the top comes off. I would buy another one, but not a music box one. It seems like the main plastic gear and metal spindle were not straight, which caused the little gears on the side to not work. When it does work, it was so wonderful to watch—I am just sad that it doesn't work consistently and often gets stuck on the gears inside due to being just a wee bit angled.

Fun toys
This will be a Christmas present for my 13 yr old granddaughter, who has been taking ballerina lessons since she was 3 yrs old. The music box looks very pretty. I haven opened it to inspect it yet.

Fun build but finished product not working
This kit was a fun build, but the finished product is unfortunately not working. Despite waxing the parts thoroughly and seeing that they worked well when first assembled, the gears are not working with the final product. When I first assembled it, some movement would take place, but pieces got stuck and did not move smoothly, and I had to manually move them to get them to continue. Now the pieces are not moving at all when I wind it up. Again, fun build, but I'm disappointed that the final product is not working. I was hoping to give the finished piece as a gift, but I won't with the way it turned out. The music barely plays because it just gets stuck, despite everything being properly waxed and capable of turning.
