Q: Do these need to be cleaned before using?

No not cleaned but they should be flushed discard all permeate for the first hour.

Q: is this actually the Filmtec brand?

It is actually a Dow Filmtec XLE-4040. Be sure it is the Dow brand, because there are other brands that don't work as well.

Q: I am using this membrane in a stainless steel housing. We have between 70-90 psi going into the housing. What should we use to restrict the flow?

We recommend using a needle valve (such as swagelok B-1RS4) - the needle valve works to restrict flow so the membrane can operate properly.
