A *Must Read* for anyone using Keto for seizure control
This is the gold standard for understanding the ketogenic diet if you are using it for seizure control. Explains how to calculate ratios (4:1, 3:1, etc.) and written in language that a typical reader can understand. There is a lot of misunderstanding and confusing information about keto for seizures on social media groups, so do yourself a huge favor and read this instead. The degree that the diet can be successful is very plainly explained. It doesn't work for everyone and this book will set your expectations correctly.Of course you should only start the diet under the supervision of a physician and dietician trained in the keto diet, but this will give you a deeper understanding of the history of the diet and the process.I liked the fact that it referenced so many published studies so I can further my understanding. There are many additional resources listed in this book that are also invaluable to anyone pursuing keto for seizure control.

Foe seizure disorders. NOT FAD WEIGHT LOSS
NOT FOR people in to the hipster wanna-loss-weight people. TRUE Ketogenic diets are very specific, require the care of at least one physician. Unless you have a serious disorder (seizure disorder or similar) do NOT expect this piece to help you lose weight. HOWEVER this book is fabulous, has absolutely the most comprehensive academic works on ketogenic nutrition and PERMANENT programs. This, again, is not for weight loss - it is for seizure control and weight loss is simply a side effect - and can be dangerous at that unless, precisely followed. However if you, a family member or friend has a seizure disorder, but it and read. Ask your neuro and nutritionist SPECIFIC questions. If they don’t have exact answers, change doctors. YES seizure control can be achieved but only when very specifically followed.Again, this isn’t a “keto diet” in the hipster, fad diet context.Fabulous book and one I keep referring to. I actually have two copies - one fir the kitchen and one for the home office.Thank you to all academics and professionals for this unbelievable collection of info.

Read this book
This is the book. Read this book. I'm an adult with epilepsy and this book was tremendously helpful for me. It is great for anyone considering keto or MAD, or anyone considering it for their child. It is approachable, informative, and reassuring. It gives you science, it gives you examples, it gives you recipes, it treats you like an equal. I'm serious, I cannot recommend this highly enough.

Not Quite The Guide You Would Hope
When your child's "nutritionist" asks you to read a book about ketogenic therapies four or five years after she began the WOE...I suppose "Ketogenic Diet Therapies for Epilepsy and Other Conditions" is somewhat informative for those who know nothing. But there is so much BAD info... Whether it's telling people that it's not natural, that it's okay to use chemical laden "supplements" and inflammatory seed oils, or telling tales of nonexistent "side effects", so much of books like this are backwards and obviously influenced by #bigpharma.Additionally, this "guide" keeper reiterating that the patient MUST always be under nutritional supervision. The ketogenic diet is quite possibly the exact diet Mother Nature intended. It's meat, eggs, full fat dairy, and maybe a bit of cruciferous veg and berries. It's VERY simple. Yet the book keeps warning (and seemingly trying to dissuade people from it) how difficult it is.Look, I highly respect The Charlie Foundation. But those who they have partnered with have an agenda that's not 100% about helping patients. It's too bad that a book parents in dire straights depend on to learn about the ketogenic diet are being mislead and lied to.

A Must Read if on Keto for Epilepsy
I found this edition more helpful for adults on keto for epilepsy. It discusses choices of different types of keto and spends more time on alternatives to traditional ratio keto.
