The Candy Recipe Has Change
For years Gustaves Wine Gums were my passion: dark, rich, bursts of flavor in the mouth. Suddenly everything changed. New company? New management? No consumer feedback? No quality control? What you get now is a big bag of bland, dull, nearly flavorless choppers that deliver none of the same unique taste as they used to. Quite honestly, one flavor tasted like a lemon scented dishwasher pod while another tasted like plain corn starch. Buyer beware, these are bad to the bone. Last order from me. Ever.

A nice quantity of a popular brand of wine gum
Wine gums are not something you see many Americans eating and sharing, or even talking about. I learned about them through a British TV show. I ordered some, just to see what I thought of them, and ended up deciding to make them a Christmas tradition. For those who have never had wine gums, here's a quick description... They are gummies, but a much firmer consistency gummy than you are probably used to. They will almost seem stale when you bite into them. The outer layer is dry to the touch, and they are quite chewy. Each is labeled with the name of an alcoholic beverage, such as sherry or cider. Each is flavored differently, though I doubt you would confuse that flavor with the alcoholic drink they're labeled as. They kind of a mildly spiced fruit flavor (at least to my taste buds). They're not weird and nasty like a Turkish Delight (apologies to those out there who love that candy, but it's not for me!). They're kind of pleasant and put me in mind of the difference between a Christmas Ale and a "regular ale"... the addition of subtle spices to a gummy candy. They were supposedly invented during a time of prohibition, to give people a sensation of having an alcoholic beverage without actually having any alcohol. However, the reality (at least to me) is that they don't really taste anything like a mixed drink, cider, wine, or gin. But they are tasty. In the entire bag, all of the gummies except one were delicious and exactly as expected. That one, however, is one of the nastiest things I've ever put in my mouth. It tasted like a combination of cleaning fluid and something even harsher, like gasoline or something. VERY, VERY unpleasant. If you are curious about wine gums, I recommend trying them. You may not want a bag this big unless (like me) you find that they're a seasonal favorite for you and your loved ones.

Taste and Texture
These are so good and deserve five stars when they are fresh. When fresh, the taste and the texture are excellent. This package met this criteria. The pricing is also commensurate with the quality.

New to me.
I bought these because of a reference I heard on a movie. I was disappointed because even though they are labeled with different kinds of wine, they all taste the same, and the labels are random, not dedicated to even a certain color. The texture is perfect, if someone wants the fillings removed from his teeth.
