A good guide to start out with
Since I have to write a lot of copy now that I've got a few indie books out - writing blurbs, writing emails - I figured I should read up a bit on how to write copy. This book is easy to read and concise (which is good, since one of the main pieces of advice is 'be concise'!).There are lots of useful pointers here. To be honest, a lot of what he says is what my English teacher taught me at O-level, but it's good to have it reiterated. If you're looking for a book to help you write book blurbs, How To Write A Sizzling Synopsis by Brian Cohen is better, but this is a pretty good guide to start out with.

If Carlsberg wrote business books...
Being new to copywriting I asked a copywriter and my course tutor which book to read first. They both recommended Write to Sell. It's been the easiest, most informative and succinct business book I've ever read. And believe me I've read a lot over my 33 years in business.I've learned a lot. All of which should stand me in good stead to launch myself into a new career. Some that I'm using to write this review (temptation to put an exclamation mark in here resisted). To the author - thanks you've made a daunting start much less painful.

Success if you read it, failure if you don't ;)
This book is incredibly practical. There is so much in it I keep reading and re-reading to make sure I'm getting it write. The letters and emails I'm now crafting are having more impact. Absolutely recommend this book whether you're a small business owner like me or a professional marketeer

You'll Wonder How You Ever Got On Without It
After four years at university, I used to pride myself on being able to write clear and comprehensive reports. Over twenty years later, I began to wonder why my website wasn't creating the interest it should and why my marketing literature failed to generate the clients I was seeking. It eventually dawned on me that if I wanted more clients, I would have to change the style of my writing and adopt a sales-oriented approach as opposed to one that had its roots in academia.I spent a considerable time researching the vast number of copywriting books on the market before deciding to purchase Write To Sell by Andy Maslen. I have not been dissapointed. Andy demystifies the whole process of writing copy that will sell and presents his ideas in a well-structured and concise manner. Whether you want to re-write the content of your website, produce an engaging sales leflet or even re-design a menu, everything you need to know is in this book.Andy is the founder and owner of Sunfish, a copywriting agency set up in 1996, so he has a wealth of experience upon which to draw.If you only buy one book on copywriting, I recommend Write To Sell; it does exactly what it's designed to do.

Presses all the "write" buttons
I have read a lot about copywriting and taken a course in it. Whether you are an aspiring copywriter or a more experienced one, "The Ultimate Guide..." must rank as a must have in your library. It is easy to read, very comprehensive and has just a dash of humour.Andy Maslen has identified the most important aspects of good copywriting and laid them out in an entertaining and easy to understand way. Chapters 13, "The black arts", and 14, "Why your sales copy should be like a bowl of Rice Krispies", stand out for as particularly useful to me, but the book is (copywriting cliche coming up) packed full of useful tips and techniques. An index would have been useful, but the book is concise and clearly laid out so this does not detract significantly.
