Yes, it's odd, and yes, there is a use for it. This connects an amateur portable radio to a base station antenna for temporary use. I don't often come up with a requirement like that, but when I discovered that MPD Digital made one, I absolutely had to try it. I've used lots of their cables for connecting amateur portables to car antennas, which saves a new "ham" the need to purchase another expensive radio; but after I donated a mast and temporary base station antenna to the local Scout troop, it was obvious that they were going to need something to hook to it. This jumper and a table to put the portable, its battery charger and a speaker/microphone on and shazam!! - a 5-watt base station. I used the jumper and my own collapsible tower (with antenna) at the last practice session of prospective amateur operators, so I know it works very, very well. The picture doesn't do it justice, the fittings are stainless at both ends, the workmanship is exquisite, and knowing that it's going to be in dust and mud and trampled upon regularly is depressing, but the MPD Digital cables have, to date, survived that and worse, so at least I know I've done my best for the Scouts.

I got this for using with my experimental antennas. It came very quick and it performed well but it did have a bit more loss than i would have expected. I over all still think it is a great item.

Awesome cable. This cable is well built, with quality coax, connectors and shrink tubing. It's heavy duty feel is due to the RG58 and the thicker shrink tubing which protects the connections and will last a lot longer than most of the other cables out there. I use it to connect my mobile ham radio to a dual band telescopic antenna. For base and mobile/portable purposes this cable does exactly what I need and it does it very well I am very happy with it.

I purchased this cable for a bicycle ham radio setup. This is just what I was looking for. The mobile antenna mount has an SO-239 connector and the radio has an SMA connector. Finding a cable with a PL-259 and SMA, eliminates the need to use adapters or adding the connectors my self. So far this is working well. Only time will tell how well it holds up.

Used this six times and the tip of the sma male broke off the radio tosed it in the recycle bin pissed this was garbage

These are extreemly well built products. This cable uses good quality cable and connectors. Heat shrinking over the junction keeps the usual connector twist under control. Great price for a great quality American Made product. If you need a good quality adaptor cable that won't fall apart and that is not made in CHINA, these are the folks to go to.
