Does this come with everything needed to play the game? I have heard that you need to also have the Dominion base card set in addition to this set.

OK. It looks like Amazon has a couple different products pointing to the same Questions&Answers, which is causing the confusion (and is always a pain in the neck). I'm looking at "Rio Grande Games Dominion: 2nd Edition" (In the "Product information" section the ASIN# is B01LYLIS2U). If that is the same one you are looking at, it DOES come with everything you need because it is the base set.

If you have the original is it worth it to buy this whole new game or just the expansion pack of this?

If you have the original already I would buy the update pack for it instead of the whole new game. (unless your money/victory cards are as worn out as mine were and you wanted an excuse to get a fresh set of those cards too :) )
