Elegantly Handsome & Smooth
I've long been an advocate of fountain pen, and have a small collection that ranges from mid-range Lamy's to an antique Mont Blanc. I bought the Aero because I was looking for a pen with a bit more heft than the aways light Lamys. I was looking for a daily writer and I found it.The medium, like most quality German nibs is not as fine as might be found in a Japanese cousin. For me it seems perfect. Very smooth, easy writing with a good ink flow that allows a bit of variation in line thickness variation. Looking at a sample, you know it's the product of a fountain pen. I like that.Even on laid paper, this pen feels nearly frictionless. Some might complain it's too smooth, that there's not enough "feel" of the paper, but I appreciate the effortless quality it brings to my writing. While this pen's price is far from the low end, it's construction and design rival that of many twice it's price. While the ovoid shape and deep ribs of the body hearken to designs of the 30's, it doesn't look like an antique or an imitation. It could easily have been designed by a mid-century modernist, or today's post-modern school.Mine came packaged suitably for gifting with a grey aluminum outer box. It also included a converter for use with bottled ink, or can be used with short international cartridges - I like the Mont Blanc midnight blue for daily use.I suspect if you care about the art of writing you'll be happy with this pen.

A stunning pen
I must confess: I have a pen habit and the Diplomat AERO is one of the best I have ever used. Every contact provides the thrill of precision German engineering. If this were a car, you would wind it out on S-curves on a coastal road while smiling with maniacal happiness. The pen packs heft, flows smoothly over the paper with just the right amount of ink. The snap top makes it easy to start writing quickly. And, everything is metal, so there are no flaky plastic threads to deteriorate over time. Solid posting and perfect balance. It transcends my workman Pilot 74, the frustrating flow of the Waterman Carene (despite factory rehab), the infinitely maddening Lamys which are beautiful only on the surface, and the tractor-like scratchiness of the TWSBI 540.

Could use a better nib
Ive come to love fountain pens. This pen is well worth the money. Its got a great weight to it and feels amazing in the hand. To be honest though, Ive paid much less for other fountain pens that right smoother.

You get what you pay for
I have been using fountain pens for around 9 years now and I must say this pen is one of favourites. After using lamy 2000 and waterman carene I was shocked to see how smooth and consistent the nib on this pen is. The overall design of the is quite asthetic and retro. Diplomat is one of the most underrated company when compared to the likes of Mont Blanc and pelikan. Their pens are handcrafted to perfection. Being a steel nib I had second thoughts but was proved wrong. A must have for any fountain pen collector out there.
