Cute gifts for girls
Gave this to my daughter for her 9 birthday and she loved it . She takes it every where she goes . She loves the fact that it's has this voice activation password. And she constantly changing her password. She loves the fact that when me and her dad try. It's said password not recognize and the alarm goes off. She's even more in love with the fact that she can write some thing with the special pen and use LED light to read what's written . She brought it to church on Sunday and all the little kids were writing in her journal and reading back with the LED They love it ....

impressive!
I read a lot of reviews about different journals and this one had a pretty good one for the price so I went along and got it for my 7 year old step daughter who absolutely loves writing journal entries. She also has a 2 year old brother who loves nothing more than to get into her stuff and color on it or something so I decided to get her something with some privacy. This little journal is true to the voice activated password. My son grabbed it and tried numerous times to break in with his voice and it declined every time. I also tried just to test how good it really was and wouldn't open for me either. My step daughter also had to make sure to say it the same way every time because with different voice tones it wouldn't open for her either. She absolutely loved the black light feauture as well. She would write things and run up to me and say "Do you think anything is written on this page?" and when I would respond "No" she would flip on the black light and say "Ha! well I did!!" The only problem we had with the item was that the latch broke after only a few hours of play. I contacted amazon and they have the most incredible customer service I have ever seen. They sent a brand new one immediately and even put it on a one day shipping. We haven't had any problems with the new one at all! I would recommend this item!!

Complete Disappointment and Waste of Money
I wish I could return this. I wanted my daughter to have a diary safe from a rinky dink standard lock that comes with most lock and key diaries. I really researched diaries before I purchased this one as every penny spent counts. The diary is LOUD. There's no volume control. Thus, no privacy. The entire house can hear it say "password successful," "welcome," "goodbye." It is junk. The whole thing can be bypassed by simply removing the batteries. I really, really wanted her to feel safe to write her private thoughts and feel secure in knowing no one could pry. Total, total junk. I wish I'd bought a rinky dink lock diary and somehow tinkered it to make it less access alb to others. Does anyone have suggestions for a fool proof physical diary? I wish she had the option of being able to digitally record on a tablet or the like but she doesn't.

catches interest of young girls
My daughter asked for this for her ninth birthday. We have had it for about 3 weeks now. It has been somewhat frustrating for her since it frequently doesn't recognize the password; however, once I showed her how to reset it, she is satisfied with resetting it as needed. As most girls of her age, she likes the idea that she has privacy, and it has a space for her to put things (even though, when figuring out my "indifference," she tells me- and shows me- what she is putting there! So sweet!). She has hardly written a thing in it, though, and primarily enjoys exercising the fact that it opens to her voice. Overall, it is hokey, but it plays on this age girls' desires and imagination; so... if she likes it, well... is it worth purchasing for a few weeks of passing interest? Perhaps.

Great fun for kids!
I was a little hesitant to purchase this item after reading some of the negative reviews but my two grandchildren wanted it....need I say more? This has brought hours of enjoyment and the frequent sound of their beautiful laughter. An added feature on this particular model is the ability to record personalized greetings, goodbyes and even a message to advise a sneaky thief to get away from their diary should they try to mimic the password. We have not encountered the issue of the diary not "understanding" the owners voice very often. When that occurs, it is usually in a very noisy environment and removing to a quieter one corrects the problem. Highly recommend this product!

Daughter Loves It
My 9 year old daughter saw one of these at Wally and had to have one. I suggested she include it in her letter to Santa (ya, she still believes and will continue to let her until one of her classmates clues her in). So, Santa brought her this one. Very good price in comparison to other vendors (I have to admit I had what Amazon has done to many of our mom and pops but damn, in this economy it is hard not to purchase from Amazon with their almost always lower price, free shipping, no tax, etc.). It works very well. She recorded her "password" on high quality and even she has to say it back exactly or it won't let her in. I have tried it and it won't let me in either. There is a reset so I as a parent (or anyone else) could reset it but then she would know and why? She is very honest and why shouldn't she have her "private" journal. As a divorced dad, I think she should have her own place to record her thoughts and secrets.

Frustrating for adults, but my daughter still enjoys it
For my daughter it is still a magical, secret toy that works fairly well. As the adult that has to fix it occasionally, it can be frustrating. It's not superior at recognizing the password from her and I need to take out the batteries to reset it for her. Other than that, she really likes the secret compartment and the little sayings that the journal can create for her to keep people out, etc.

This product is AWESOME! I got this for my 9-year-old daughter and she LOVES it! My daughter heard about it from a friend and wouldn't stop talking about it. It works PERFECTLY! It has maximum security. It has a password that only opens to your voice, you can change the password, greeting, alert, and/or final whenever you want and it has an invisible pen so nobody knows your secrets and a light so you can see what you wrote! My daughter is still thanking me for getting this for her! If you're a Good Quality person then I highly recommend this item.
