Does not work and eats batteries.
tried to use this 3 times. The first time it went thru 6 batteries in no time as there was too much cheese. It wasn't overfilled. I only put two small pieces in and then it would work, but not long. It drained the batteries. they were hot when I took them out to check their power level.Second time I used brand new batteries and 2 small pieces of cheese. it worked for about a minute while covering a pan of Ziti before it drained the batteries to half power and stopped working. Third time it ran for a few seconds and died completely. New batteries would not work at all and were hot when removed.Update 3/8/2017I decided to take it apart after it being too late to return it. I had to break apart the small motor from the reduction gearbox. The motor ran fine. I found the lower of 3 gear packs had a gear off its spindle. I assume that caused the thing to bind and not run. I put it back on and reassembled the whole unit even though I damaged some parts getting them apart. It ran! I added 3 pieces of Parmesan cheese cut 1/4" thick by 1" square and stood them up in the unit. It ran with batteries that said only GOOD in a checker. I ran it for only 30 seconds to not waste the cheese. The batteries were not even warm.I'll comment later after it is used for a meal.Looks like there may be a problem with the gearbox design or assembly.

Thank you 😊
I just wanted to say thank you. I bought this for my husbands birthday on the 30th of July, it didn't work properly and he was kind of bummed out. I told the company and they sent out a replacement that minute! Considering the issues I've had with other companies last month with returning defective items, you guys were the best. So thank you. You made me a very happy customer 💜 John's wife- Missy

very bad
I bought this excited product and paid $9.06 shipping. It is a product without quality control, because at first use the pushbutton was stuck. I disassembled it and put it back together and luckily it was unraveled. But at the second use it got stuck again and never worked again. I want to returned it back and they want to charge me back $9.06 again. Is this just? Cole & Mason should first have better quality and second not charge the shipping service if a malfunction occurs. And Amazon should protect the customer by not allowing Cole & Mason not to take over the return. I just want a cheese grater that works, couldn't they just exchange it for another one in good condition? Very upset about this situation. I hope to have some answers to solve this inconvenience.

It's now my favorite table top appliance
Once i figured out how to separate the parts ..... alignment marks are clear once you know where to look for them but the instructions were a little weak...... and i got the batteries to stay in (fit ok but need to pay attention to the fit in the handle) .... i dropped in 3 or 4 pieces of hard parmesan cheese about 1/2 inch by 3/4 inch..... It's now my favorite table top applianceUpdate: Jan 17 (bought dec 16)Sad day at the kitchen table.......it worked and then it didn't...... make a metal clink kind of noise. Tried new batteries and no cheese and no luck. Replacement on the way....so my rating just dropped. After only half a dozen uses it should be a way more durableUpdate #2Amazon did a superb job of dealing with the return (from Canada it's more complicated).... got notice of refund, shipping costs covered, replacement order .... but ..... first replacement order got returned to amazon and it was reshipped and now one month in still no sign of it. Trying again because i really like the device. It is very clearly an issue with the shipping method that i don't believe is amazon's responsibility. Cross my fingers next one gets here :)April 17Amazon customer service came through and it finally arrived... can't say enough about how helpful they have been. Now i'm anxious to see how long this one lasts

The idea of electric cheese grinder is good.
I love the idea of an electric cheese grinder, and the portability to bring it to the table or wherever to use. It’s good for just the two of us, but to use it at a family dinner,,,,,too slow. It would be good to have a charger station. The 6 AAA batteries wear out way to fast. You must have good batteries as the motor to grind consumes a lot of power. The motor could be stronger for faster grated cheese.

Wonderful for the brief time it lasts
My husband bought one in November 2016. We loved it, used regularly, and then it died. It's motor just stopped running.I bought a replacement in November 2017 (without checking how long we had had it - just under a year). It takes 6 AAA batteries and just didn't get used - every time someone thought to use it, we didn't have the batteries. Finally found the batteries and went to use it a few weeks ago, started fine and then died before it had finished grating it's first load of cheese. Now of course it's too late to return it.

Not worth it - Battery Operated - Didn't make it past first spin
After a lengthy order delivery time - I was anticipating this item. It is battery operated which should caution people wanting to use this for something a little harder like Parmesan. Unfortunately - and I'm not sure about this just being one defective one or the over all quality of the product - but it did about 2 rotations of soft cheese (cheddar) - made a grinding noise and stopped rotating. The motor runs but will not rotate. This isn't a shredder for - well anyone really - I was discouraged at the quality of the product overall.
