To see the unseen
I purchased this endoscope as a means to assist with projects I am working on at home. Recently in an electrical project I had to run wires through an air return in the basement ceiling. I bought a flex bit that is essentially a flexible drill bit that is 54 inches long meant doing just this sort of task. Now it was my first time using this sort of bit but I made sure to follow the instructions the best to my ability. Unfortunately, instead of coming out the other side of the joist space, I came out of my oak dining room floor. I can't help but feel that if I had this tool earlier I could have avoided this situation entirely. I was wishing to have the ability to see where I was drilling but went on faith alone. Now my dining room is aerated. So now I have the endoscope and have been able to take pictures through my floor. This certainly isn't an easy tool to use. Yeah, you can just run the cable into the cavity and see some stuff, but not necessarily gather useful information. I took some shots through the hole to show that the camera works well and gets clear images, but getting the camera where you need it may not be the easiest thing. The light is useful in close quarters, but don't expect it to fill the void. It is only meant to illuminate objects up close. They have a question code that sets you up with their software, but I just went to play store and downloaded the first one. It works great. I think they are all fairly interchangable. The best part of this is the impromptu lesson my 2 year old got with the camera. We were putting the camera in our noses, ears and mouths and having a blast seeing the images on the screen. But a quick warning, start with the mouth. I made the mistake of starting in the nose and have to live with that.Disclaimer: I received this product at a reduced rate for reviewing purposes. and a Google search stated the rating of IP67 is "100% protected against solid objects like dust and sand
The product arrived neatly packed in a box in its shipping mailer, and came with a storage bag and 4 pieces (3 attachments as mentioned in the description, as well as a black plastic sleeve to use the hook or magnetic tips - See first photo.) Despite it being expressed in the photos on the listing, I was still surprised at the USB/USB micro all-in-one cable end. It certainly eliminates the need for an adaptor, which saves the supplier and customer time and money. (see second photo) The 1.5m length is equivalent to 4.9 ft, so consider this to be 3 or 4 feet of length if you plan to snake it into a specific area. Don't count on the whole length when deciding which product to choose, as you would be sticking your phone/tablet/laptop right up the the end of the location if you don't account for some slack.I was not familiar with the IP rating system, and a Google search stated the rating of IP67 is "100% protected against solid objects like dust and sand, and it has been tested to work for at least 30 minutes while under 15cm to 1m of water." This sounds to be more than adequate for our household's small-scale needs. The current tests of the camera we plan to make are:Slow draining tub inspectionCheck vehicle for possible debris in water channelOther plans include general audio, video, or data cable, and inspection within a conduit, wall, or other obscured location.I did receive this product at a discount in exchange for my commitment to leave an honest and thorough review. I rated this item at 5 stars for being exactly as described and meeting expectations. If this product works well for short-run inspection we will invest in a higher grade unit in the future.
