Big Green Egg All Natural Charcoal Starters - 24 cubes

I've always used a Weber kettle grill and for starting it used a charcoal chimney with paper towels and cooking oil. That system has always worked for the kettle grill, but I received a Green Egg for Christmas this year and the chimney didn't seem like it would be a good option for the Egg. These were recommended by someone I know who has an Egg and I looked into them. I was skeptical at first - they don't seem like much, but so far so good. I use 2 to light my medium Egg and they get it going quicker than I expected. I'm often ready to start controlling temp in 10-12 minutes. That's for lower temps - 225 to 300 degrees. I still have my kettle grill and use it for cooks larger than the Egg can handle by itself. I've starting using these to light the charcoal chimney - no more mess with the oil and paper towels. So even if you don't have a BGE, these might be worth a look to you.

I use these exclusively to light my Big Green Egg charcoal. I have a medium BGE and if I starting my fire on a leisurely pace, one block will suffice. For quicker starts, I use two. The blocks light easily (I use a butane mini torch) and I’ve never had an issue with the overall fire not lighting. The package stores conveniently and has no odor. The blocks break apart easily by hand. Great product that works as described.

These are so convenient and simple to use. I have two Green Eggs, a large that I use two starter block and a Mini that I only need one block. Place in the middle to lower part of the coal, ignite with a match or lighter of choice and wait a few minutes and you have a Green Eggs that’s ready to cook on

I use these in my BGE; unlike some other starters that I have used, these seem to stay lit a little while longer so I have more confidence that the lump is lighting. Nothing worse than using a starter and setting your intakes, only to come back thirty minutes later and see that nothing is lit. Everything BGE brand is more expensive than it should be, but these are worth the cost.
