My owner is off the computer for the moment, so let me use this opportunity to tell you about the Pureness Giant Translucent Litter Box. In short, we cats love this box! My name is Nemo, and I am the oldest ( male age 5 years) of three cats living in the household. My sisters are age three and ten months-Boy, is the kitten a handful... Anyway, perhaps there are some other felines out there who take an interest in pet supplies ordered by their owners. As you know, most of us can urinate just about anywhere we chose - carpet, bedding, etc. Most of us prefer to use clean boxes. I'm not sure the owners understand when we do not use the appointed litter box, we are usually trying to make a statement- Oftentimes, we just want to point out the box needs cleaning or we have an illness which needs human attention - Then again, sometimes we just don't feel like using a box. Well, the new kitten had such an episode the other day. Feeling the immediate need to relieve herself, she did so on the bed-Humans are so prone to outbursts, & this was no exception. I thought we were going to be rid of the young pest, but the owners relented & just decided to get a second litter box. Guess they thought one of us was using the first box when the little monster kitty felt the urge to go. My owner is so uptight, she spent five hours researching litter boxes online-Even made us sit at the computer to ask our opinion-Like we'd actually tell her- Anyway, this box arrived super fast & was well packed. Boy, have we ever had fun with all the packing material. Anyway, the lid fits well. Owners removed the front door flap since it got in our way. I waited for my sisters to use it first in case something was amiss. I tried it out just this morning & like it. One of the best features is the translucent, smoke gray color. It allows you to see other kitties lying in wait outside the box. My sisters love a practical joke and are always poised to attack just outside the box. Whatever happened to quietly reading "Cat Fancy" while doing your business? The handle is sturdy-I should mention that, due to my allergies, my doctor vet suggested we use shredded newspaper rather than perfumed & dusty litter. Using newspaper means there is no extra strain or weight put on the handle or other parts. As to odor control, which seems to be a big issue with the humans, we don't find a problem with this box. Using newspaper as litter does not offer the same odor control as regular litter, so our owners (you know, the uptight one) change the contents two to four times per day. Of course, every time the paper is changed, we like to pee again, but the humans need more exercise & stuff to do, so this works out fine for us cats. The owners really seem to like the locking features between the lid & bottom. Our other box is one of those large domed, round Booda styles without lock features in the lid. I was able to raise the lid with my back, pee outside the box, & set the lid back in place. It always made a nice April Fool's Day joke, anytime of the year. Well, you know humans, they had to go with a locking lid. By the way, if your owners are upset when urine pools around or underneath the litter box, we have some suggestions. So many people seem to use mats or carpets underneath a box-This doesn't alleviate the problem. Our owners use plastic trays under the box and then put plastic carpet runners under the trays. The tray catches any leakage - The Pureness Box does not seem to leak, but just thought I'd mention it in case it's an issue with your humans. The dimensions given for the box are accurate - My owner was considering the smaller model, but due to my length & nine pound, fine body, the larger model was ordered. The price was reasonable & there's money left over for new toys - I'd prefer a cage for the monster kitten, but sometimes it's best to let the owners think they are in charge. Hope you all enjoy this box as much as we do. Remember, always keep the owners guessing what you'll do next - They listen to you better that way.

This box is great for one scare-dy rescue cat, the litter box is in a quiet place (primary bathroom) and she can see out of it, which is key. and I don't use it with the door flap. Also, this box is smaller than some of the giant ones, probably not great for more than one cat, but it works very well for us. Those are huge plusses. The negatives: yes, as some note, quality isn't super--the plastic is thin, and I would *never* try to carry it using the handle, but that's okay. The top fastens with clips which are easily to manage when I need to scoop. Also, we like this box so much that this is the second one I've purchased--we've had the first one for 10 months and yes, it gets scratched up, etc., so while I'm still using the first one I purchased, I'll replace it soon. A note on litter box use in my home (which is very very small): we use flushable corn-litter (truly the best for us!) and once every 4-5 weeks I *completely* dump the litter, empty the box, scrub every part first with dish soap (outside!), then spray it liberally with one of the cat enzyme sprays, leave it for 10-15 minutes, wipe that out and dry every nook/cranny before putting fresh litter in. Is it labor intensive? yes. But the box has stood up the nine times I've done it, and the clips that fasten the top still work (and I ordered new filters which I change every 4-5 weeks, too, they help). I'm not sure how sturdy it would be with lots of clay litter, so ymmv. negatives: the first *two* boxes I purchased (not from this seller) came broken, had to be returned/replaced, which was a bit frustrating as I needed to have a box before I adopted my cat... but as noted, the plastic is thin, so I can see how breakage happens. as long as I treat this box gently, it works for us.

We bought this box when our old one was getting too worn in the bottom to even clean thoroughly. It was the same brand (Van Ness), and we were happy with the quality of our old box, so looked for a new one by the same company. First off, this is a very big box. Ask the bruise on my shin, as it took me a while to remember there was a larger box in the hallway! LOL Our two cats share a box, and this thing is really truly big. There is plenty of room for our cats to stand up, turn around, lean, write their memoirs or read a magazine while in there. I'll post photos of our 17.5-pound cat exploring it before we filled it up. For the first batch, I filled it with half of their current batch of litter (meaning the one in the old box, with some crumbs of yesterday's business) and half new to get them used to it. We did NOT use the swinging door, both because of our box's location (in a small hallway next to a bedroom door - we have a small place), and because our big cat is skittish of things touching him. We think he'd freak out if the door swung back on his fur, and he might not use the box again. I kept the door, but really doubt we'll use it. The translucent isn't as bad as I thought. By that, I mean I thought we might have to see everyone doing their business, as well as what business they did, because of the transparency. As it turns out, the main thin you see is a shadow in the box, and the litter level. That's about it. I think both cats enjoy the extra room, because even our bigger cat can stand up if he wants to without a problem. The entrance is higher than our old box (which sloped down a little). This might be a problem if you have a cat with limited mobility, but for now, it isn't a problem for either of our cats, aged 5 and 6. I like the higher entrance, because we have a LOT less litter being kicked out now. It's a win-win. Now, I know this isn't the place to review sellers, but I have to mention that if you buy this from PetCareRX, be prepared to not only wait awhile for the box, but cross your fingers on the condition it arrives in. Amazon has spoiled me to expect great customer service and careful packaging. I forget sometimes that that is not the standard for all sellers. Our box arrived in really bad shape. The one piece of tape at the top was mostly popped off. One hinge was missing entirely. It wasn't a huge problem for us, but if it was in a place where locking the lid was essential, we would have had a problem. It was really surprising to see how carelessly this item was packaged and shipped. Shame on our seller...not that I did not ding any stars based on the seller. but, Van Ness makes a great cat box! I did ding them one star because of the iffy quality of the plastic. This is MUCH MUCH thinner plastic than our last box. Our other one, you could lift the bottom even if it was full of litter and a cat. This one bends easily, and would never hold up to being picked up with litter in it. It isn't flimsy, per se, but isn't the same thick box we previously had. I would never try to pick up the box with litter in it. I was actually surprised by how thin the plastic was, given the price tag for it. I kept our old one for an extra week, in case this one died right away. So far, despite feeling extremely thin, it has held up to the cats jumping and scratching without a problem. I'd doubt we get the long life we got from our last litter box, but so far, we've had less mess at the litter box location, both cats are using it without any problems at all, and it seems easier to clean. (We do just lift the lid off the box and scoop from there.) It might simply be that our old one had become scratched and pitted from use and old age, and this one is still nice and smooth. Either way, we are glad we got this size, and I was happy to see that we got a similar color as in the listing.

I moved from one apartment to another. My old apartment had a nice large bathroom closet and I could just leave the door open a crack so I wouldn't have to worry about the whole room smelling like dirty litter. Our new apartment has a much smaller bathroom, and the only logical locations for a litter box would be in the dining room, hallway right outside the dining room, bedroom, or living room. I certainly do not want to smell dirty litter in any of those rooms. This litter box turned out to be perfect, you can't smell anything when the lid is on. I think you have to stuff the cats in the litter box when you first get it so that they can learn how the door works, after a couple of days they just ignore the door and just jump right in and out. There's little filters on top so that air can get in and out and dry up the waste in the litter box so that you can have an easy time cleaning it. The lid pops right off for cleaning, but as someone mentioned earlier, the cat pee can get in the seam. There's a lip on the outside so that none of it can get out, but you just have to be careful with where you put the lid when you want to clean the box so that you don't get any on the floor. Anyway, I'm kind of a clean freak when it comes to my litter box, especially since it's in the dining room. We had some guests spend a couple nights here and on the second day of their visit, they were asking where the litter box was because they didn't see one. You can't smell it, and only a very small amount of litter ends up outside, you can just use a hand vac right outside once every few days (or whenever you clean the box) to clean that up. Needless to say, our house guests were impressed. Overall, I'm very satisfied. We can leave this in our dining room and have it not affect the way our home smells and the cats love it, and if you put it in the corner of the room people wouldn't even notice that there's a litter box in the room. It's large enough that my older cat can fit in there all the way and turn around to sniff then cover his waste; and also two cats can share it and I only have to clean it once every three days though your mileage may vary.

Much sturdier than other brands. Latches work well. I wouldn't say it has any special odor control.

Good a little bit, i would only get this for one cat. if you have more than one i wouldn’t recommend. Did break like a week after my cat’s use. the latches are cheep and the door never stayed on.

Been using this litter box (no, not me silly, the fuzzy children) since the early 2000's our cat passed so we adopted 2, so we got two boxes. Replaced them with the exact same to the best of my knowledge 3 times since then. We put a full 20# container and some extra in each box. The have their drawbacks but workarounds are easy since the children, all 6 of them now, accepted the litter boxes without a hiccup. If you cat whizzes around the seam you will get urine around the edges and latches. Be prepared, get a Clorox or Lysol disinfecting wipe and mop it up right then. Go all the way around to clean it and down in the latch. The check the outside back and give it a once over. Be careful of the molding flash in the center of the bottom part. You might want to scrape it a bit if you get one with a piece of plastic hanging on. You cannot fix the bump in the bottom, scoop around it. If you cat doesn't like the flap (our Maine Coon kinda perches on the edge to poop) just pop it off; it doesn't affect the litter odor at all if you clean your litter box at least every other day. If you fill the box as we do (overfilled, actually) then slide the box rather than picking it up by the handle if it is full of you know what. Kitty's business adds weight to the litter....all them clumps are heavy! You can clean them with the most industrial cleaner you can find and it won't the plastic or the kitties. We use Clorox spray cleaner for a through cleaning once a week and the wipes when we scoop. The air filters are a bit pricey, but the best value is at wally world for less than $2 each. the biggest boxes such as we use need 2 of them and they do help with odor. The last about 2-3 months. As others have pointed out, they plastic is a lighter gauge than it used to be...we have had to replace boxes because they break at the seams near the latches on the bottom. Sorry for rambling, but when you need a big litter box for fussy cats ( think 4 foot long Maine Coon or a Persian/Siamese mix that inspects each box before deciding on the box de jour). We caught these on sale for $8 each normally $20 at wally world now, so they were a good buy for the money. Please, spay or neuter, adopt from a shelter and support the good folks who rescue animals thrown away like so much trash.

I should have paid better attention to the other reviewers but my old box cracked in the lid where it was going to be dangerous for my kitty and I needed a new one fast. I have been purchasing this same Van Ness hooded box (1 in blue and 2 in white) for the last 10 years. We clean it every day. We lift it full of litter to slide it out from under the counter where it lives, and remove the top to scoop every night before re-securing the lid with a tactile and audible click of the latches, lifting it while full of heavy clumping litter, then sliding it back into its home. We take it outside and let it soak with dawn dish soap in the sun every 30 days to clean it completely and remove any odor. It is treated quite roughly and each of the previous models have held up for 3 plus years of this abuse. I am sooooo disappointed in this latest blue version. They appear to have removed a lot of the plastic thickness and the entire box is quite flimsy. As others have stated, the lid tabs don't even clip on correctly. I can feel the lip of the box bend as I carefully slide it back under the counter (being sure not to lift at all as the latch will pop off). I will be absolutely shocked if this is still in tact in 3 months. I hate how many companies are taking once great and durable products and reducing them to junk now. I don't know if they are just trading on previously strong reputations as long as possible to cash in or if it is the push to remove plastic for environmental and cost reasons, but if I have to buy a new box every few weeks, it isn't satisfying either of those customer side requirements.

I was a little nervous to purchase this after reading the reviews. However it is by far the best cat litter box I've ever purchased. Great price and super easy to put together. My 21lb cat can fit in it and he loves it. It keeps the smell in and I love how my cats don't kick litter everywhere. The only con was the swinging door. Based on the other reviews, I ended up taking the door off before letting my cats try it. I was worried they'd get stuck and be afraid to use it. Otherwise it works perfectly. Great balance also, the weight of the cat litter keep it in place. Would definitely purchase again!

Excellent product. This gives our large cats loads of room to move and turn round. They seem to appreciated the privacy/security the swing door gives them (having a smoky semi see-through finish means they can check their surroundings on entry and exit). the base is deep, so a good load of litter can be put in it when required. we already have two of these - we can 'mix and match' the tops and bottoms so there is always a clean set - but they are getting well used as they are about 6 years old now. this latest one is lighter and not as robust as the previous purchases, but I'm sure it will be just as useful.

The product is very flimsy not sturdy. The flap door keeps falling off. Not worth.
