FireAngel SW1-R Smoke Alarm + Heat Alarm

If I die due to a fire and this doesn't give me prior warning then my review will change to 1 star. I have already written this in my will.

Items arrived on time, time to replace old alarms throughout the house.Others have mentioned the large hole required to fit this item, yes there is a hole for the cabling but it’s not really an issue and can’t be seen when installed.My issue is that I fitted one of the units in the place of an old unit ( different make) and from day one it has beeped randomly - not quite enough to be really annoying but the old unit hadn’t made any noise. I changed the battery, no difference. I even swapped the unit with one of the others - no difference. Due other issues this has meant that I have passed the return date, so I’m stuck with 5 units I don’t trust and I’m going to have to get more replacements.This is just my experience with this make, but it does mean they will be going on eBay and I will be looking for another make that is as reliable as my old units.

Had two of these installed 11 months ago. Were fine until recently and now they both keep going off almost constantly, even in the middle of the night. Thought it maybe the backup battery was low so put new batteries in but did not help. Would not buy these sort again as 11 months lifetime is not good.

Our ceilings need to be painted so I took the time to replace aged smoke detectors fitted in our new build. Really easy to fit. I purchased the additional BW-PF-T Push-Fit Ceiling Base units (not sold by Amazon) as well and they made the install really simple. Just wire into the base unit and the Fire Angel smoke detector clips in. Toom, about 20 minutes per head taking your time to take the old one off and put the new one back. You need a signal cable between the smoke heads, if you don't have one they sell a wireless ceiling base to link them all up. Price is great and as smoke detectors go they look the part as well.

I chose this alarm because of the large number of positive reviews in Amazon. Unfortunately, I'm one of the small number of buyers who experienced false alarms.I installed the unit in the ceiling at the top of the stairs. DIY isn't one of my favourite activities, so I didn't enjoy crawling around in the loft. Fitting the unit was a bit of a pain, and it took longer than expected. For a few days, we felt safe and secure, with the reassuring blink of the green light.After a few days, the alarm went off. My wife had me check the whole house to make sure that there wasn't a smouldering flame. I reset the unit. About a day later, same again. Gradually, we realised that the alarm was triggering regularly every few hours.Our house is quite old, and we also have a wood burning stove. This makes the house quite dusty. I guess that could be the problem. Maybe the backup battery has run down? Who knows what the problem is. I guess that this unit's intense alarm volume is a good selling point, but I'd rather just try a different brand rather than try to fix this unit. I couldn't wait to get the battery out to shut the damned thing up.

Many people will be buying these to replace old alarms. And if you search online for the manual and instructions, you will see that nowhere it's clear how it's done. This makes it very HARD to assess compatibility with existing setting. In my case, the whole in the ceiling wasn't big enough to fix the plastic connector that MUST go inside the ceiling. This was very frustrating and made the installation harder. If I knew, I would have bought different ones. But by looking at the manual and the info provided on the official website, I was misled to believe it would be compatible. It costs nothing to provide better info, so they get these stars purely for the peanuts price they charge, and 0 for the rest. You get what you pay for, as always!

Very easy to install.For those worrying about the cable connection this is really not a problem.Most installs in a ceiling will have a hole where the cable comes through, usually you would put a connector block through here for the connections to the mains.This is what I did and a small hole is big enough for the cable connector to go through and sit in there fine.Good value for money, I installed 3 of them and have them linked together with the link connection.Would buy again.

Product had a fault with it when installed, powered up to mains and battery connected started going into alarm. Battery changed product still in alarm. New exact same alarm purchased from screwfix and no problem. Second time I’ve had this problem with this model previously purchased elsewhere. It’s just irritating when you spend more time diagnosing the fault than the alarm takes to install.Also if you’ve got concrete ceiling forget it there’s no space for connections unless you can poke through ceiling
