Paints are accepting water and work like water color.
Beautiful vibrant colors, but sticks are smaller and thinner than I thought. They are water-soluble, and I can use them like watercolor.

Seems like good soft pastels
When this asks 'good for beginners', I'm not certain if that is the right question. I've been drawing awhile and have used soft pastels. The beginning pack I got previously was cheap and had good colors, but it gave off an odor which bothered my family. This pack seems like very good quality and no odor. That counts for something. The pigments seem rich. I'm having no trouble blending them together. I am laying down background colors with these, following with pastel pencils by Farber-Castel, then putting in the most detail with Prismacolor pencils. This seems to work well for me.

LOVING MY SELECTION!!
After reading so many reviews by folks regarding all of the various brands of pastel softer chalk sets, I was seriously expecting some damage, even if just one or two...especially since it was packed in a larger box that allowed shifting...the outside cover was even looking as though it had had a rougher travel... but no! ABSOLUTELY PERFECT!! This was purchased for a beginning chalk class I’ll be taking, and yes, the chalk sizes are most likely smaller than the “pro’s” in this artistic medium are accustomed to, but what an EXCELLENT selection and range of colors! As another artist mentioned, this set is small enough to easily take to location for on site, out in the open field work.THANK YOU FOR THIS BEAUTIFUL SET AT A GREAT PRICE!

Nice Assortment of Colors
This is a very nice starter set of affordable, pro-quality pastels. They are listed as soft pastels but are more on the semi-soft side. Softer than Nu-Pastels but more firm than Mount Vision or Unison. The are great for blocking in colors, they blend smoothly and you can quite effectively use the edges of broken pieces for fine lines/details. I am very pleased with the quality and handling of these pastels and the range of colors provided in this set make will make a worthy contribution to your pastel collection.

Small but Plenty
I love these pastels. I will admit though that I’m a bit obsessed with Faber Castell Products. These pastels are small so for my needs they are perfect but if you are needing a larger pastel maybe reconsider. The colors of these correspond with the other colors in the Faber Castell products so great for mixed media use with the Polychromos and the Albrecht Durer Watercolor Pencils. They also work well with other pencil brands so you absolutely do not need the other products mentioned to enjoy these pastels. I numbered the contents in the packaging in order to know exactly which color is what & made a corresponding color chart to match when I open the box so I quickly find the exact color I need. These are kind of pricey for such small pastels but I overlooked that because I love the quality of Faber Castell Proucts. These are perfect for me and have a offer a nice range of colors.

beautiful colors
This is the first set of pastels that I have used, so I do not have any others to compare with. I love all my other Faber Castell art supplies so I decided to try these. I am still learning how to use them but I love them. Very blendable, good strong colors. Nice selection of colors in the box. I will say, they are Very messy, but I guess that is the same for all brands. Just keep a towel or paper handy to wipe off your hands. I am not an artist, but I use them for coloring art pages. I use them in conjunction with my markers and colored pencils. I wish they had a wrap around them like a few other brands do.

A lot of color transfer
Always heard this name brand was very good to use I wanted to try them for the longest time but they are on the pricey side. I was excited to get these until I open them up and seen this. Black on most colors and this little paper that didn’t save any colors from transferring on to different colors. I thought about returning it but I really wanted to give them a chance. I tried my best to wipe most of them down. Last but least I never had this problem with cheaper ones I’ve tried. Just how they package it was disappointing. Over all colors are beautiful. I gave it 3 cause of packaging and all the black on most of the pastel.
