My instructor recommended this book because I stink
At the age of 50 I just started guitar lessons. My instructor recommended this book because I stink. Lol. This book had been great st helping me. So glad I purchased it.

Good for 10 and up
What I wouldn't give for this book to teach my child to use a tuner to tune a guitar...I bought this for my sons to share, aged 7 and 10... the 7 year old is completely lost but my 10 year old seems to be able to pick up what is written. Do NOT expect most children to be able to teach themselves from this book... mom or dad will have to help out. It is also a VERY thin book, I would have liked a little more to it, still it's a good starting place.

Mel Bay - Always a Winner!
I have always enjoyed using Mel Bay's books and bought this for my grandson who is just beginning to play! He lives in Kirkwood, MO where Bay is from, so it's a double winner!! We will see how it works for him, but I was pleased with the book's clarity and illustrations.

Good teaching resource
I teach guitar and have found this book very useful for young students with little fingers who struggle playing full bar chords. It definitely requires supervision by an adult or teacher with a new student in order to make sense of the diagrams and how to strum. Exercises are chord progression that get progressively more challenging as you go and that you'd find in thousands of songs. Glad to have found it.

I like to see the illustrations of the chords provided here
As an adult learner practicing infrequently, I like to see the illustrations of the chords provided here. Simple, short, nice book to have for a true beginner.

Good supplemental
I bought this to be a supplemental book for my 6 year old. It is easy to use... once you know how to read it. That's a me issue more than the book. Just my luck my daughter chose an instrument I don't play.

This chord book is great. The chord exercises are very good for practicing. Hope to use this with a large group of students.

Mel Bay Children's Guitar Chord Book
I bought this book for my 8 y/o grandson. I almost wish I hadn't, but he is getting there and will be in his class play, debuting his guitar-playing talents very soon. Besides, who ever heard of a BAD Mel Bay Book?

Good but pricey
I bought this for my 10 year old niece (beginner) for her to self-teach without getting bored (which happens very easily!). The book is very easy to follow (though maybe a bit slow-paced for a 10 yr old) with each page containing a large diagram of the fretboard on the right (with chord tabs) and a large drawing to its left of the hand positioning on the fretboard of the guitar. Below these, theres a mini chord progression tune using the chords learnt so far up to that page. The book is for COMPLETE beginners to chords (there is no other information in this book), and a good introduction.Three stars because for the 32 pages of sparse detail and pound shop colouring book quality, its expensive (I paid £5) compared to the other books in the market - I also expect she'd get through this in a few days.

hmmmmmm
My has a guitar and i thought that as he don't know the basics this book would be ideal .......... WRONG,Its quite hard to understand far to difficult for a 5 yr old. I bought it for xmas present and where he was very excited to get started the mood changed when we were trying to work it out. Its still a good book though but should be a bit child friendly.

Ok
Ok. Need a little knowledge of guitar playing before using this book. There are other more entertaining books to use with children learning guitar but this is still a good informative book, if a little boring.
