Scales & Modes in the Beginning: Created Especially for Guitarists

Excellent Scale Theory And Usage Book
What makes this book stand out is it does an excellent job of demonstrating the different scales and how and where to use them. Pebber Brown who taught Buckethead along with many other prominent guitarists has a YouTube channel with excellent videos and tutorials which are simple, direct, no non sense. His videos are an excellent compliment to a book like this. He recently passed away but left a treasure trove of great lessons. This book was written in 1979 or so and has no tablature but this is not problem because it has all the fingerings and neck/scale diagrams of every scale, mode and passage.

Useful info, lots of typos and printing errors
The information is solid. I had this book 30 years ago. Unfortunately, it hasn't been checked over by the publisher since. Almost every paragraph has a grammatical error. There are spaces missing between words. It has a photocopied feel. One page is tilted a little so a word or two is cut off. The typography is ugly and unappealing. The information is good. The author is an expert. I recommend to the publisher that it be redone. Freshly typed and laid out in conjunction with a book designer. A qualified text editor should be hired. In other words, care enough about your product to make it as excellent as it could be.

No Tableture
I bought this book. Looks a great book. But if you're expecting tablature, think again. Would be good if it included the music and tab. There were no info on if it had tab or not. Not even in the comments.

Great Source of Information
This book is one of the best books that I have ever seen on scales and modes. It introduces and describes scales in an easy way. Once you understand and learn scales, then you understand how chords are constructed and can better improvise. The book also discusses the less familiar but important concept of modes which are scales within scales. I really liked the section on foreign and exotic scales which you can use to give your music a little extra flavor. I believe intermediate and advanced students of guitar will be able to put to practice most of what’s in the book immediately (of course with some practice depending on their level) and will get the most out of this book. In addition this book provides information about the fretboard, patterns, intervals and hand positions. I highly recommend this book.

Opens Your Fretboard Knowledge
I love this book. It is very helpful. It really opens up your knowledge of the different scales, modes, positions and theories. It has everything. Pentatonic, Major, Minor, CAGED, three note per string, you name it it's got it. It is everything you need to know about the guitar and more.

Just what I had been looking for for many years
I had this book years ago, it's one of the greatest music books I had ever owned. It's all about music theory, the scales lessons are endless, the play along and jam over the chords sections really teach you a lot, and it's just an all around great book for guitar players. I lost my first copy when my home burnt several years back. I didn't think I'd ever replace that book. I looked for many years and finally found an even better copy in mint condition, shipping was fast and accurate, the binding on this one is way better than the paperback version I had the first time, and it was just a great shopping experience and product. Will do business here again with no worries.
