Q: How long can I expect these to maintain quality of sound? I know I can get 5 years of solid use out of a Share SM58 (small concert venue).

I have been using my GLS audio Vocal Microphone as a mobile DJ since December 1, 2012 and it is still maintaining the sound quality. As for getting 5 solid years out of it compared to a Shure SM58? Only time will tell.

Q: How well will this microphone would work for harmonicas? Does it have a volume knob?

No volume knob on the mic. The performer will have handle the mic. Harmonicas work well for us with these mics. The performer has to be the one judging the volume by distance and effort.

Q: Can I use XLR Male to RCA cable to connect it my home theather. If possible, where the mic will get power from, is there a battery?

No, you can't plug any dynamic mic into a line input. This mic does not take a battery, but it (like most pro audio microphones, including ones with batteries) needs a "microphone preamp". Your home theater RCA inputs are called "line inputs". They expect nice big beefy signals in the 5V range. Dynamic mic signals are in the millivolt range. Even battery-powered "condenser" mic voltages are far below the level required by line inputs. In addition to the voltage, there's another factor called "impedance" that is important, and this is also incompatible. Q: How well does this deal with background noise? For example, how well would it pick up me typing on a keyboard below the mic? (sorry, mic amateur)

This is a cardiod dynamic microphone and that's what you want if you need to deal with background noise. Just adjust your gain so that it's at a good level for when you're 1 or 2 inches away and go with a quiet computer keyboard and you should be good to go.
