Newly Lost Functionality
Dymo Labelwriter software (bundled with the labeler) has been replaced by Dymo Contact. This new software no longer has a contact database and instead must rely on either Outlook or Google contacts. These have to be imported first, then selected to print a label. If you have an existing database from the Dymo Labelwriter software, you must export it as a CSV; however, the CSV that is exported is not well formed and not readily importable into Dymo Contact: The fields are corrupted into columns rendering the import useless. You would at least think that the requirements were well understood - the reason they are not is that Lablewriter and Contact were produced by 2 different companies (not Dymo) and they obviously did not communicate. Furthermore, if you continue to use the older Labelwriter software it recently lost the "Address Fixer" capability because the host web site was shut down.I found the currently bundled Labelwriter software not intuitive and the various bells and whistles to "create" your own labels to take a very long time requiring deep review of the web based help. While you can pick a Dymo label, you must manually place the various contact fields on the label and tie those to the imported address columns (you must map the fields). However, if you had imported contacts from a CSV you quickly realized how useless the import capability from Dymo's Labelwriter software really is.Importing a CSV will most likely work if your contact manager exports CSV cleanly with well formed/defined columns. But remember, Contact is no contact manager and any time you change your contacts in Google or Outlook you must re-import the dataI really miss the old software, it worked well, was simple and well thought out, and didn't require me to use Google which is basically opening everything up to their surveillance - plus you then have a couple of applications to work with to print a simple label.Dymo really missed an opportunity to make the new software compatible with the old - and the loss of the contact manager means double the work.
