I live in Belize.......
I live in Belize and I am not surprised that Lily has not only captured the best and the most comprehensive look at our Country, but she has managed to capture the spirit that is Belize. I bought the book, because Moon was always my guide to this country that has so much to offer. My old edition was starting to get a little tattered as I lent it out to everyone who needed some guidance and just received the updated version with all of Lily's updates and experiences and she hit's the nail on the head for everything that is special about this tiny country. I met her several times while she was in Belize as it is such a small country, we all tend to bump into each other and what impressed me the most was that she not only reported on the things to do, where to stay, restaurants to dine....she actually participated and spent the time to get to know Belize and the Belizeans. Her photographs are brilliant and her writing style is easy and straight forward. This is the ultimate Belize bible and I highly recommend it. I have lived here for 3 years full time and I still haven't seen or done everything that Belize has to offer. I don't know how she did it....but she provides not only a guide to the perfect vacation, but has given me a lengthy bucket list of things to do and see that even I have not been able to do. Check out Punta Gorda if you want a real Mayan and Belizean experience.....from the Cayes to the borders, this is the ultimate guidebook. Great Job.....I only wish I had her job.....Jackie

The best of the 3 major travel books to Belize - FUN TO READ TOO! This book makes you feel like you are already there!
I bought all three travel books on Belize I could find, wanting to squeeze every bit of fun that I possibly could for my 12 days in Belize. The Moon book BY FAR was the best book (better than Fodor’s or Lonely Planet) in my opinion. If all Moon books are written as well and concise as this one then I will buy a Moon book for every trip in the future. A minister at my church calls me "the fun maximizer", but the Moon Belize Handbook written by Lebawit Lily Girma takes it to a whole new level. I've been to Belize once before and Africa three times and try to get the most out of every major trip so some of her suggestions were exactly what I witnessed three years ago. The way this author wrote and the places she went really fit my style of adventure and looking under every rock for something “fun”.Reading this book is like having your own personal travel guide with you – I could almost picture myself driving a 4-wheel drive in the Mountain Pine Ridge of Belize with this author in the back seat suggesting I stop for gas before driving into “one of Belize’s most beautiful landscapes”.She has been a personal trip planner for me and it’s the one book that will travel with me this week to Belize as my own travel guide. I’d like to thank her for all the hard work putting together such a travel treasure!

The only guide to Belize you need
I bought this guide to prep myself for a trip to Belize and ended up highlighting and dog-earing almost every page. It's a simple, straightforward guide with plenty of recommendations on what to do, where to stay and what to eat, but it is also written in a way that showcases the author's true understanding of the country and its people. I also appreciated the sections about safety/potential catcalling and how to deal with it. This is the kind of thing you don't always think of when planning a trip, but traveling in a group of only women it was helpful information. This time around, I only visited San Pedro and San Ignacio, but I'm hanging onto this guide as a reference for Caye Caulker and Placencia when I return. If you're planning a trip to Belize, I can't recommend this guide enough. It made me even more excited for my travels and the maps inside were very helpful once I got there.

So thankful I got this!
I can already tell that this book will be an incredible resource for our trip to Belize.I purchased it and have already read it twice. Planning to have my husband and Dad both read it before we depart. The book is very well written and contains a lot of information for each area of Belize. Each section contains so much information and great detail for where to stay, where to eat, and even direct phone numbers to the best taxi drivers or transportation services in the area. I know that I'll be flipping through this book for restaurant suggestions, bar suggestions and maps! Each section has several detailed maps along with the full-color photos. To be honest this is the first time I have purchased a travel book (we usually just rely on the internet) but since we're taking my father with us I wanted to have something to hand him before our trip and I knew he was more likely to read an actual book than a bunch of stuff printed off the internet. I'm so glad I did! I think this was the gateway drug to eventually having a book-case full of travel books (and hopefully they'll all be dogeared and dirty from being tossed in backpacks and drug across continents).Bravo, Lily Lebawit Girma!

Great book for its time
Great book for its time. Unfortunately it is outdated.... Many accommodations listed are closed or shut down. Some travel recommendations are not available anymore. But very helpful maps and great recommendations on any still open accommodations. We recommend to confirm any chosen travel plans or accommodations, from this book, ahead of time.

Belles photos!
