I am not positive but I know it is either China or Taiwan. Either way, it is a great knife. The belt clip is the best I've ever had.

what steel is used for the blade?

195 stainless steel it's sharp out the box I've been caring mines for almost a year now it does need sharpening so not sure how hard it will to sharpen it?

Can one thumb stud be removed from one side of the blade? I saw a video review that the studs tear up pockets because they stick out so much.

6 years later. Yes. Kind of. You can't take one off but you can grind it down to where it doesn't tear up the pocket. I use a small belt grinder.

Can this knife be carried on an airplane?

Uh... maybe if you are an Air Marshall. Otherwise no knife can legally be carried through TSA by a civilian. Not even the little Swiss Army keychain knife.
