Nice Heavyweight Mat
I finally bit the bullet and purchased the Manduka Pro Yoga mat. I don’t really do yoga, but in my cabin, I have porcelain tile floors and I need something firm and non-slip for the exercises I do. The Manduka does not slip, or stretch when in use. It provides just the correct amount of padding, and it inspires confidence that this mat will outperform and outlast the yoga mats I’ve used in the past. Go for it!

Supportive mat for hot/regular yoga
I am very pleased with this mat so far. It did take a few weeks to break in as I expected from reading the other reviews but it has provided the additional support I was looking for my joints & back. It seems to hold up well to regular practice 3-4 times a week. I expect I will be able to use this mat for a long time.

Pure luxury. Sticky.
I am very confused by the other reviews. Let's talk about texture, progress, and size. Pictures show an old ProLite in green, new Pro in black.Texture - I did nothing to my mat. It's beautiful and sticky and I flew my crow right away. I plan on washing it regardless, because it feels almost like a film of stickiness put there for people who are concerned about the breaking in period. Out of the box, this mat is already stickier than my old prolite mat, which I find to have more than sufficient grip. For most practices, including a nice fast vinyasa / power flow, all I need is a hand (mat) towel in case my hands are slick. I do use a mat towel for hot yoga for grip and because it feels better against my skin. The striations of the embedded fabric top have changed somewhat over the years - I've attached a photo so that you can compare. I'd say the variance in the texture has also increased - I don't mind, but it is slightly less perfect. Of course, this comes from someone who did exchange her first Manduka because the texture lines were misaligned to the mat, which was included in the warranty. (Side note: Manduka has been a fantastic company for me, and they sent me another one which was perfectly aligned.) This one deviates by maybe 4mm at most, and I have the extra long. All in all, still a beautiful finish. The weight of this thing almost feels wet and heavy; it drops to the floor like a soaked towel and becomes one with the ground.Progress - I've owned my Manduka Prolite for 10+ years. I watched them transition from logo stickers to fabric tags to this iteration of printed on frog. This one is even stickier out of the box than my first one, which I did indeed have to break in. I noticed them making them less slick out of the box a few years after I bought my first one - and this one is even stickier than that! If anything, I think it's almost as sticky as a Jade Harmony, but less dry feeling and much more solid. This upgrade (and stay at home mat) is totally unnecessary for me - my old mat shows zero signs of wear, and I'll be hard put to justify buying another mat ever again after this one. However, as much of an indulgence as this is, I am so enthusiastic about it - it feels just different enough, like the top of the line model of a car compared to its middle sporty model, all smooth, heavy, and finished.Size - My new mat is extra long at 85" and 26" wide. I'm what, 65 inches? I don't really need it, but it is amazing to stretch my arms up and still have mat. Those extra inches on every side oddly give me more confidence to try balancing poses. I seriously thought this would be too long and pointless, but as soon as I laid on it, I knew it was never going back. It feels different enough that I wouldn't bring it to a super crowded yoga class because I don't need to be the person who thinks they need more space than the rest (since I am not larger), but at home, oh man. The freedom, the sprawl. To my fellow average height females, do it. Splurge. You're already getting the Pro, there's no going back. All in all, this reinvigorates my home practice and gives me more (unexpected) confidence to fly / fall. It's perfectly usable the moment you get it, and will completely outlast you. The only shame is that I'll never be able to justify getting another mat.

Awesome yoga mat - and my method of making it grippy.
Huge fan of this mat. I got the 85" inch and the extra length is well worth it. Very stable, well constructed, plenty of cusion for a large male, and easy to clean/maintain. Like many, I found it to be slick when new, so I took an unconventional approach that has worked excellent for me.How I made it sticky (this WILL void the warranty though):1: Get a green abrasive pad, like what you would use for dishes2: Get some AJAX/Comet/BarKeepers Friend (I used Comet because thats what I had on hand)3: A small bucket of water4: Apply a little bit of AJAX/Comet/BarKeepers Friend onto the yoga mat5: Dip the abrasive pad into the water and splash a little water on the yoga mat6: Gently scrub the entire yoga mat with the abrasive pad, water, and AJAX/Comet/BarKeepers Friend, it will suds up a bit which is normal.7: When done, rinse very well with fresh water - it takes multiple rinses, so be thorough.8: Wipe dry, and then let it fully air drySome notes/tips (important):1: Less is more. Don't go crazy with the AJAX/Comet/BarKeepers Friend. Start small, and after the first round, if you feel it needs a little more, then do so.2: When scrubbing, go gently. Don't bear down super hard or put in a ton of elbow grease. Use a little pressure. The point here is to remove any coating and gently scuff the surface, NOT remove material. Again, if it needs a little more, you can go back for another round. That's about it. Once I did this, rinsed it, wiped it down and let it thoroughly dry, my mat was perfect. I've been using it regularly for the past few months and it continues to feel plenty grippy. I have the black mat, and it still looks/feels like new too, no signs of degradation or anything like that. This worked for me, but just remember to go gently, don't overdo it, and this WILL void the warranty. I didn't care about warranty because its very well build and I can tell this will last me a very, very long time. If the time does come for a new one, I'll definately be doing this procedure again.

The secret is sandpaper! I'm not kidding!
This mat is beyond durable. The 6mm cushioning and large size makes for a luxurious feeling yoga practice and I just can't go back to smaller mats after practicing on a Manduka Pro for 4 years. The black sage color is also lovely and soothing to look at.The one thing I DON'T love about this mat is that it absolutely WILL NOT break in. I did multiple rounds of salt scrubs, dish soap, and magic sponges and it was still a total slip 'n' slide even with dry hands and feet. I finally had to take--I kid you not--a BELT SANDER to it with some 220 grit and this seems to have removed the slippery top layer from most of the mat. (It has a slightly ribbed texture, so some of the low points did not get sanded.)I was not gentle, but even after sanding the mat it remains in excellent condition with no surface rips, exposed thread, or other wear aside from what I did intentionally. This thing is going to outlive me.
