FirstMate™ Grain Friendly Free Range Lamb & Oats Formula Dog Food 25 Lbs is about the only Kibble dog food our Aussie/poodle will eat. Many Canadian and European animal food products actually use, what we in the USA call "Food grade" products in their animal food. The US not only uses "Feed Grade" food in animal "Food" but is very lightly regulated and most complaints and recalls are generated by the public who lose pets to the crap that is allowed in the feed they call food. First Mate is among several Canadian pet food companies that use human grade food in their pet food. We used to buy Open Farm, a Champion pet food company that also produces Orijen and Acana, also Canadian brands. When Open Farm opened a plant in the US, the effect on consumers was very dramatic and not in a good way. Now Mars, a US company that has bought out several US pet "food" businesses is trying to acquire these Champion brands as well. So we found First Mate and are very satisfied. If you value your pet, you need to be aware of who is doing what to the Feed or Food we are giving them. The FDA only acts when pets die as a result of the products they allow on the market kill or sicken them.

I have been feeding First Mate Lamb and Oats Formula to my two Havanese puppies for almost 2 years after trying Nutro and Blue Buffalo which I had to struggle to get them to eat. My dogs are healthy and they are a lot of energy. Their coats are shiny and thick and above all, they love the food! I follow all of the dog food recalls and their has not been a single one in the time that I have been feeding them this product. It is also rated as a very high quality dry dog food; suitable for all dog breeds and all life stages. You just have to follow the portion size recommendations for your dog’s weight and age. I highly recommend this food
